Single bullet to animal's head does not kill it
I don't know how the mechanics of bullets work on animals. I used a CR-527 (7.62x39mm) and shot a stag in the head. But still, it survived the shot and ran away like it was nothing. I managed to track it. But it took 2 more headshots to drop down the stag. Is it some kind of a bug or is that how it has been programmed? Please help. I hate tracking a non-bleeding animal. Also, other day, I had to use 6 or 7 (I'm not sure) .22LR rounds to drop a boar, even at a really close distance. Why?

It's how the game works at the moment sadly. Before some patch at least they bled out and died but now they effed something up then add the "balanced" bullet damage.

You can't even kill them with a .308 or a 7.62 Mosin in the head, the little CZ Carbine probably just tickled them

It's dumb, but currently the only way to drop a stag on the spot is to double tapping it with the Blaze or the double barrel shotgun loaded with slugs. Same goes for wild boars.

The .22LR can't even headshot a Zed, that's the reason why the Amphibia is probably the most useless item in the game right now, as even suppressed shots will attract zombies like flies on a turd if you don't kill them with the first shot.

Yes. I get it. I hope DayZ changes this feature in the upcoming updates and fixes. Maybe we have to wait, 'cause DayZ has improved very much over the past few years. DayZ today has far more better graphics and gameplay mechanics than DayZ 2013!

Wild Boar survived several Bullets into the Body, but i thought that would be ok.Edit: 9mm

1Tundra Shot to Wolf Head or Body, and its down.
1 Repeater Shot to Wolf Head and its down.
Need to test smaler guns, to see if they need more shots to the head or body.

I did that just once, so i would need to repeat it to see if it happens again.

I think this is Balanced very well and we just need to test more. Hunting should be a challenge, now it seems like one.

Edit: You get the best food out of those big animals, they should not beg you for killing them and die easily,
Hunting Rifles and Scopes will most likely make your efforts easier.

You might be right. Because, even though it is against real life physics, according to game, the meat the bigger animals like deer give "must" be difficult to get and the DayZ team did that by making them harder to kill

I managed to kill a wild boar with the lever action. It also works on the small deer and 🐑🐏. But that's about it. The big caliber rifles are a joke for hunting. The damage is way too low. Even a well placed shot with a 5.56 can down a big animal but they have no such hitzones.

Last time I used an amphibia, I could headshot a Z at close range (5-10m). It was before 1.07 though.

Even the rifle despite having a higher velocity doesn't down them with one shot either below 50m.
They are not a toy. One guy once said those who claim it doesn't hurt should let him shoot them in the forehead with it. Iirc it wasn't even about the .22 at that point, it was about a high powered pellet gun in .22 he was using to hunt vermin.

i just killed a pig in 1 shot to the head today, was using a mosin tho

Domestic animals are much easier to kill compared to wildlife, also size and temperament can be a factor, young deer go down with a single rifle round, boars and adult deer require multiple high powered rounds to die. To make matters worse they also run away quicker and longer than a sheep or a pig would do. That's why you don't want to waste bullets on them, any melee weapon does the trick silently and with high margin of success.

So many myths surround many things.

.22 is weak
.380 ACP is weak
9mm is weak
.357 is strong
i have a 10 inch ♥♥♥♥
.40 is strong
10mm is strong
.45 ACP is a man stopper
.50 AE

The majority if those myths are over 40 years old.
This guy is facts over myth. He also did an over 1h video to disprove people who claimed their .22 never jammed.
