Rain Mechanics??
Im wondering if awnings trees ect. have an impact on staying dry. im trying to maintain until the rain stops but i cant start a fire in my location and im already damp. i have equip to start the fire but am conserned to make a run for it to a place suitable for the fire. since im not 100% sure where the next spot might be. also if anyone could elaborate on the dryign of clothes... i know u can wring them out but will being near a fire also dry them or is it time to find new clothes?? thankx in advance??

There are spots inbetween multiple trees where you can start a fire, but it's not that easy to find them...you might be better of finding another place..some houses (those with the open fireplaces) can be used as also the big double door barns (the ones with stairs in them), the metal storage buildings and multiple others...

Edit: and there's no need to strip down..clothes dry on your body as good as they do next to a fire...wringing them out will let them dry faster, due to them being less wet, but that's it..

possibly a glitch.... im actually in an open barn. it has the ramps at both ends. (not stairs? maybe a diff barn?) i think im going to make a run into the forest near by for the time being and maybe find a spot under a tree. a house would be ideal but i cant see anything promising from my current spot. ive just gotten to a point that i should be figuring out my location on the map and getting a plan so im kinda lost and then the rain came. idealy when i log back in it will have subsided and ill be able to make one right outside.... thanks again for the info!

Open barn? I think, you're talking about those wooden ones, that come in a long and a short version? I'm not sure about those, but they should work too...

That's what I meant with the "hard to find" spot inbetween trees...a tad too far and you can't ignite, too close, you can't ignite...

O've found there is a sweet spot just so far from the trunk, where you are allowed to place and start a fire, and the limit where you are still under the tree and protected from the rain.

I have found it easiest to find that spot if there is a slight downhill slope, to put it on that side of the tree.

Someone once had a diagram showing the area where you can light a fire and still be protected by the tree. It's not very big, but it's there. i've even been able to light a fire under an apple tree (0.62) and warm up, dry off while picking apples and eating. Best of both worlds. (Can't pick apples in 0.63 - have to wait for them to appear on the ground).

Dont waste your Time there if you still have normal health.
Get to a Village or Barn and make a Fire there, Being Wet doesnt do damage, it just increases your Temperature loss which increases your Callory usage.
If the Server is Warm or Hot, there is no problem being Wet at the moment (no other sideeffects at the moment). If you get cold yellow, you should have all you need for the Fire in your Inventory or are activly searching for it, when it gets Orange thats the moment you should arrive at shelter or are allready in it starting your Fire. Sadly Servers are rarly Cold, but still you can push to your Limits.

Wringing clothes isnt very effective at the moment, just sit infront of the fire.Dont Burn yourself. But also dont be to far away from it. There are 2 different zones to the fire, slow warming up and fast warming up, move a little until you find the wanted one.(Could be wrong about the last one and the speed was determind by wet clothings suddenly being dry, not sure).

i made it to another shelter started a fire and got dry. i also managed to gear up a bit near turovo although i did loose my 9mm in the process of wringing out clothes. it did seem to dry them almost instantly after wringing. my gear seems to be taking on wear a bit faster but im not for sure with all the rain and fire ive been worried about. i was going to head the the adjacent airfield as soon as weather permits. i didnt wanna hop but if its still raining tonight im jumping servers so i can make some distance.

Bad Weather is your Friend on Mil Areas and Airfields, Snipers have bad vision and your noise is harder to hear. Fog would be your Lucky Day until you get Lost.

My nav skills are not to shabby with the help of the dayz map. i do have a 22 sporter for prtection but i will def heed ur warning of the snipers. i will be doing quite a bit of recon before advancing. i lost my life at this airport once before. i was geared up and got into the driver seat of the disables truck. i had not done so much recon that time and a fellow rushed me before i had a clue what i was even doing. it was also my first time in a moving vehicle although it didnt move much to speek of.

The light Green half Barell Medic Bunker is a Deathtrap, you often have Snipers on the other Side in the Trees, as soon you get inside you can only get forward or backward not sideways, thats the moment the Bullets start to rain into that Doorway. So make sure no Snipers Camping there or just dont loot that Building when you are alone. Also be Quick, if someone saw you he maybe tells his friends who are now preparing an ambush. A Smoke Grenade could also Help, but change your Position afterwards.
Wish you good luck.
