DayZ
Tinmann77 Jul 13, 2021 @ 9:46am
none of my dayz mods will auto-update
yes auto-updates are turned on.
yes sync is enabled.

steam isn't updating mods. every time i try to log in a server it tells me 1 mod that has a new version, i go unsubscribe and resubscribe to force steam to validate it, it redownloads, i go to log back into server and it tells me 1 mod that has a new version, i go find that one, rinse repeat.

extremely annoying and time consuming since some of the servers have over 80 mods and i'm having to do each one individually.

not all mod authors have updated their mods yet since today is patch day

yes i understand that.

i'm talking about mods that HAVE updated since the 1.13 released. so far i've had to go update 30. all individually since the server kicks you as soon as it finds a single mod that is a different version and only tells you that mod.

so like i said in the original post.

1.i log in server
2.get kicked and told one mod needs an update because there is a newer version
3.go to my subscribed mods and unsubscribe/resubscribe to that one mod
4.try to log back into server
5.get kicked and told one more mod that has a new version available
6.go to subscribed mods, find that one, unsubscribe/resubscribe
7 go to step 4

been doing this for the past 2 hrs

every single mod that i've had to MANUALLY redownload to update was posted a minimum of 3hrs ago, some up to 5 hrs ago.

steam is supposed to be keeping my stuff up to date by automatically downloading updates to games and mods.

its not.

hence my post.

please read the problem before posting something that is unrelated.

all auto update options i can find (yes i spent an hour googling fixes) are enabled.
the one sync option i can find is enabled.
yes cloud saving is enabled.

Go to launcher, go to mods, go to "more", click unsubscribe all mods.

Start fresh with no mods, and let steam do the rest

and then i have to re download about 90gigs of mods. and the problem with steam not auto updating them isn't fixed, just delayed until a mod is uppdated and i once again have to manually update it.

trying to find a fix, not just another way to manually update

You probably don't need most of those mods just to play on your regular servers

I play on 3 servers. one of the server owners has 89. one has 56. one has 45. except for 15 that overlap, they are all different. several of those mods are 1g-6g. it adds up fast, and i get no say in what mods the server owners install, like the extremely flamboyant gillie suits one of them added after 1.13 was released. totally useless. but without it i can't log on the server. or the dab mod that another server owner added. totally useless. but again, can't log on the server without it because the game won't let you.

thanks so much for staying on point and giving useful advice that helps with the problem and not throwing out some useless totally unrelated to the issue comment.

My workshop folder contains nearly 20GB of mods, most of which I don't need, they're from servers I joined once and never again, server packs..........

I tried to help, there's no need to be a sarcastic little sh*t

OK you have about 6 reasons which usually causes Steam not to auto update Mods ......

1. !Workshop folder contains corrupted files – It’s also possible that this issue occurs because some of the mod files that you downloaded have become corrupted. If this is a widespread issue, Steam will eventually refuse to download any new mods. In this case, you can resolve the issue by deleting the corrupted mods and do an integrity scan.

2. Download Cache contains broken files – There’s also a fairly common glitch that might occur in situations where there are a lot of pending items inside the Download queue. Whenever this happens, the downloader will refuse to download any new items. In this case, you can fix the problem by clearing the download cache.

3. The account is tied to Steam Beta – it turns out, the frequency of cases where this problem occurs is higher with accounts that are enlisted to Steam Beta. Several affected users have reported that they were able to resolve the issue by opting out of every Beta program. (Steam beta)

4. Download Region is too far away – This particular issue can also occur if the download region that is configured inside Steam’s settings is too far away from the actual physical region. If this scenario is applicable, you can resolve the issue by changing the Download Region to the correct country.

5. Corrupted Steam Installation – Another scenario that will trigger this particular issue is a widespread corruption issue. In this case, the only viable fix is to uninstall the current Steam installation and re-download the latest client version from the official download page.

6. Damage data on your Hard drive - Your drive is damaged or has corrupted data - use CHKDSK to check the file system and repair any issues. if it finds issues go back to no.1 and re run all the processes, if it finds bad sectors get a new drive and start again on a new hard drive.

Good Luck!

Are you still playing DayZ at this point? 😶

If you are using the DZSA launcher you can just use the "verify all mods button" then it should download the ones that need updating.

Pretty sure no of those reason are the problem for me, as soon as i verify the mods for which i was kicked off everything from download to installation works. I would say the auto update process is simply not working. Today i had a case where i joined a serv and one mod was updated at the start auomatically and two i had to manually update after getting kicked for not having the correct version of them.

The autoupdate feature probably should just check all mods (since it also seems not all the mods needed for a specific server, if that srerver has a lot of mods, are getting reported to the client (at least a message in the client suggests that) similar to the DZSA Lanucher option of verifying all mods. Might take longer iniatally but would pay off in the long run when you don't get kicked multiple times.

I am also having this issue as of 11/20/2024

Going to just unsubscribe all, but it seems a pain to download everything again.

People like you are why people hate turning to forums for help. You made no attempts to solve OP's problem, you provided him a worse method of manually updating his mods, tried to convince him the problem is actually him, and then you were rude af. Big L bro.
