Quake 4

Can't set Quake 4 to 1920x1080 resolution? Halp?
Hi so I opened up quake 4 and went to set the resolution to 1920x1080 and... the genius designers did not include it as one of the resolution options? What?

Can anyone tell me EITHER how to get it to set to 1920x1080 OR tell me what an acceptable substitute resolution would be?

I can't comprehend how ID managed to not include 1920x1080 as a resolution option; F.E.A.R came out the same year and provides that option.

Widescreen wasn't really standard back then. You can set the resolution to 1920x1080 by changing a few lines in Quake4Config.cfg (which is located in q4base in the q4 folder).

seta r_customHeight "1080"
seta r_customWidth "1920"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "1"

F.E.A.R. didn't have widescreen support upon release, it was added with patch 1.08 at a later date.

Thanks :)
I actually found out about that workaround before I saw this reply, but still thanks for explaining it !

It is an option btw. Just switch the aspect ratio to 16:9 instead of 4:3.

It doesn't work. I've made the changes to the config file and when I fire up quake 1920 is still not an option and the aspect ratio is set to 4:3 although each time I set it to 16:9. Why does it have to be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ science project? Not to mention this piece is ♥♥♥♥ is priced at $15 on steam.

Cool your jets, it's a game from 2005. Be glad it runs at all.

Grab the Quake 4 tweaker. Just drop the files in the game's directory, run the tweaker executable and set it up however you like. Then you're good to go. Custom resolution, custom framerate, no low-res texture bug.

I legit burst out laughing because I totally agree. It shouldnt require a PHD in janking off windows 10 alongside retro, but it almost does.

Check out my channel on youtube: Yodas Raytraced Retro Studios

Im in the process of seeing if I can do better than some lame supersampling in nvidia inspector like I did in my last render.
