I got it working well but it takes some doing. First, you have to launch Steam as Administrator. That way overlay will actually work. Then, once in the game with overlay enabled, Shift + Tab to open your settings, go into controller profiles, and download a kb + m controller profile. Edit the layout as you see fit relative to the in-game key bindings.
Once you have it set up to your liking, there's one final issue to deal with. The right analog stick functioning as mouselook by default has a stutter due to input smoothing when circle strafing. In-game, crank up Smooth mouse all the way to max, and it becomes smooth as butter (for me at least.)
With that setup, controller support is actually very functional. A remaster or re-release would no doubt include native controller support though, of course. Which would be nice.
(And to the PC Master Race elitists who think a game like this should never be played with a gamepad and are going to give this person or me crap for it... I'm older than most of you, and more rooted in the ancient gaming ways than you are. I was here for the mechanical amusements to arcade transition, and the arcade to home console transition. I was here long before PC's existed, and when they did, they were just yet another device to game on for me.
If you're supposedly such "real PC gamers," then you should have used all sorts of different input devices over the course of your lives, not just the standard kb + m setup we conveniently have today. I have carpal tunnel and neuropathy among other issues, and pretty much have to use a controller now or I lose sensation in my fingers and experience significant pain. And I'm 100% fine with it. If you're such "real gamers," you should know the beauty of PC is that you can use whatever you damn well feel like. So I don't want to hear it.)
Quake 4 (Original) was created by RavenSoft, id Software.
It's Quake II RTX, not Quake 4 RTX.
Quake II RTX was published by Nvidia (and id Software), but it was actually made by "Lightspeed Studios", who took an already existing Quake II ray-tracing version made by another guy and polished it up to make a remaster out of it.
So i think that they need to give this saga some more love, because all the efforts were put in Doom and Quake got left in the dark.
I'm sick of disappointing remasters, they should simply touch up the original to make it run better on modern systems, throw in some achievements and that's it. A new Quake game would be fine though.
If it's true ohh boy... maybe my dream of seeing an actual modern single player Quake game with the latest technology like Id-Tech 7 will become true some time in the future.
But i hope that game continues with the story of Quake 4. Some others say that i could be a reboot of the series, but i hope they stick with the Quake 2 saga, because i don't really want to see something like Quake 1, yes, i personally don't like that game that much. I prefer Quake 2.
Honestly, I think what they're doing is merging the two Quake stories into the same universe. So its likely we'll be getting both. I'm hoping for a 3 way war between humans, strogg, and the elder god entities from Quake 1.
From the leaked concept art and in game screenshots the expansion would at least freature 4 new enemies, 1 new weapon and 1 new character :
A return of the standard Tank;
A big female strogg that resamble the Black Widow spider form;
A big fat strogg with two smaller ones stitched on his back;
A small stroog that resamble the Carcass from Doom Eternal;
The weapon apears to be some kind of flametrower;
The charachter is a bald man, possible based on the Grunt skin from Quake 2 and maybe could be a Quake 4 interpretation of Bitterman.

That's a really cool find! I think they game really needs to add in female marines too tho. It makes so little sense to me in a war for survival, humanity wouldn't put any and all able bodied people in as many positions as possible. Especially considering the Iron Maidens are a thing in Quake 4 as well, so there are definitely women soldiers around.
Add to the fact that we hear women on the intercoms in the Hannibal, so its weird that at the very least we don't see women officers or crew members on the ship.
