Kerbal Space Program

KSP is getting slower and slower each time I run it
my computer runs every other game on max settings, gtx 670, amd 8-core, 8 gigs ram. for some reason though KSP keeps getting bogged down and the finally crashes for me (some of my ships are gigantic and must really confuse the game) but even smaller ships start to lag up.

Anyone have any recommendations? I've tried all sorts of resolutions and settings, they all seem to have the same amount of lag, and it's getting worse.

Same for me. I watch my RAM counter slowly but surely max out until it crashes. I have 16 gigs of RAM.
maybe you guys have bad ram? or bad ram slots? and this game amplifies it?
Some Mods slow the game down.
I notice a masssive difference in FPS, and crash rate between vanilla KSP and KSP running a crap tonne of mods.

I can play the vanilla for hours with very little issue, over time the frame rate does consistently slow down (probably a memory leak they have yet to patch up). But when I have like 20 part mods installed, the game becomes very twitchy.

FYI.. :-)
anyway we can fix this?

Note also, option below it. Decrease physics and a lot of laggy/skippiness may also be reduced.
Thanks, this is a huge win against the lags!

I hate to necro this topic, but as the issue persisted for me, I felt it necessary. I did two things to resolve the problem: Disable Intel SpeedStep in the EUFI. Clean ALL cache and temp folders (couldn't find the ones specific to this application. That said, I used CCleaner).
1. uninstall mods
2. veryfy cashe integrity
3. CC cleaner like aforwordmentioned
4. May be memory leak?
I fixed a huge performance degradation problem related to the Unknown Object Tracking. I had over 1600 Unknown Objects that were hidden and these caused excessive load times (1.5 min+) when switching between vessels, the VAB, the Tracking Station or the Space Center.

To fix it:
1. Switch to each and every one of your vessel and turn off their Sentinel pod (turn off their object tracking).
2. Use maximum time warp until the count of objects goes to less than 10, this will take several years of warping.
3. Exit the game all the way to the desktop. (saving and loading won't do, you have to leave the game)
4. Start the game and load your save. Switch around vessels and buildings in a matter of seconds just like you did when you first started your career!.

I hope this helps.
asfaik, most of this is related to the 'unity garbage collector'. This is a periodic drop in fps (mini-freezes) that happen for an increasing amount of time the longer you play a game session.

very old problem that has been "fixed" a few times now :P Squad really can't do anything about it except build their own engine for KSP2 instead of using unity.

I know you are trying to be helpful and I suspect some people may eventually run in to the same issue as you but this thread....was created before asteroids and the sentinel camera were in the game.

Run it in dx 11 mode, check steam launch commands for more info
