Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program

Ground Construction/rover repair
I recently accepted a contract to finish constructing a rover on Minmus. This requires two different rover wheels, neither of which a Kerbal can carry on an EVA.

What is the best way to do this? Do I have to get right next to the incomplete rover? I tried putting large wheels on my lander, but for some reason I couldn't turn it. At least not on Kerbin where I tested it. It's pretty large and heavy.

I bring a rover that can carry those wheels and drive it over to the rover that needs repairing, then use the engineer to assemble it. Some sort of jacking system is a good idea too. I like hinges.

One thing to note is that once you complete the job the rover you repaired is yours. You can strip it for parts to fix the next rover job,

Most of the time for those odd heavy wheels I just remove all wheels and add a fuel tank, engine and reaction wheel and fly it to the location rather than drive it.

Thanks, guys, those were good ideas. However, it turns out I CAN carry the smaller of the two wheels I need on a Kerbal. I'm just going to take off the big ones and replace them with two more of the small ones. This will still complete the contract, won't it?

Strange thing; as I was trying to place the wheel on the rover, it suddenly flew in the air. tumbled a couple of times, then landed upside down. I was able to start to tip it back over by moving my Kerbal at it, but right before it landed upright, it flew in the air again! Luckily, it rolled upright, and I accelerated time and back to normal to stop it's rotation.

I then got the wheel to 'stick'. It turned green, and I placed it.

Yes no matter how you modify it, as long as the key part is there it will complete the job.

Ive stripped them and flown them. Then flown it back to take the rest of the part off for the next repair job.
