Kraken Drives?
So,
I watched matt lowenes video of building a kraken drive.
i cant however, for the love of me, figure out how to make one myself.
do you have any advice on that?

Basically all you need to do is place two docking ports facing each other. The distance between them should be short, there is a sudden border where the docking port magnets stop working.
Here is what I came up with in like 10 minutes:

Then you should set the docking aquiring force on both to zero, and then when you want to activate it, change the force on the rear-docking port. You can also clip many docking ports in the front, so you get more force, more docking ports in front are more efficient than more docking ports in the back (Well, at least that's what Matt Lowne said)

but where can i find that force option? everywhere i looked, i found no sliders.

Right click on the docking port.

Are you playing on 1.10? Or maybe try activating Advanced Tweakables in the settings from the main menu.

That is kind of funny. I had heard the term before and just assumed it was a mod of some kind.
So basically you can cause some odd reaction by glitching out parts?

Why not just use infinite fuel cheat instead?

Yes, Docking ports have magnets in them to make docking easier, and it appears that the magnets still work when the docking ports are on the same ship, so when you have two ports facing each other on the same vessel and one has the magnets on, your vessel gets accelerated.
But it's different from infinite fuel. Infinite fuel is a cheat built into the game, this version of a Kraken Drive is just a glitch that can be used (It's still kinda cheating though), and it comes with it's own challenges.

Yeah I wouldn't even say "kinda" ha ha. Don't get me wrong I use fuel cheats in half the game saves I make these days. Not like I see using them as bad or anything. It just seems much easier and safer to click a few things in the menu to turn it on rather than trying to rig something up to glitch the game out.

Yeah, I agree. But finding glitches in the game that allow you to cheat without "really" cheating is also fun for some people, since it presents it's own challenge. For example there is a glitch where Heatshields can produce massive amounts of lift but no drag, using that technology Stratzenblitz75 built an Eve SSTO. While it is cheesing the game, even with the glitch there are a lot of challenges to make a functioning vessel.

To each their own I suppose.

I propose the KSP community formalize the term for those who accept the flaws in the software but also believe they should not take advantage of those same flaws as self-flawgellators.

People, people. Its software. "KSP Reality" is as some programmer (or group) decided it to be, not actual reality. That they can be fairly similar makes it entertaining, not some new reality.

this kraken drive you speak of... is not cheating...

the concept is a simple railgun ;o)
magnetic propulsion is a thing

Nope. That is not how that Kraken Drive works. While yes, magnetic propulsion is a thing, the Kraken Drive breaks the law of physics, since the docking ports are on the same vessel, so the magnetic force between them can't propell the whole vessel forward. It is like blowing air into the sails of a boat while standing on the boat. It doesn't work.
Or I just found a better Analogy. It's like trying to push a Car while sitting inside it. Doesn't work.

I read a book years ago by a fellow who used to work at NASA. The spaceship created a magnetic "hole" in front of it that is "fell" into. As long as the drive was working it would fall faster and faster.
