Wendigo
Good to see a game that sticks to the native american lore about wendigos. No one ever gets wendigos right. They always end up being magical monsters, larger then life, while in fact there is nothing magical about them.
Wendigos in GD have everything, the antlers, the claws ... but they are way to big. A wendigo is just a human, turned canibal and lost its humanity and loves to dress up with animal parts. Deer antlers, bear claws etc
Game does this right because first time i encountered one i was, hey a wendigo, hovered over the mob and saw the name. Eventhough the overal look of the creature is as true as it can be to native american lore, somehow they managed to screw it up by making it a titan sized creature.
Anyway, thumbs up for making a wendigo that actually looks like a wendigo, thumbs down for not resisting the urge to make it an oversized larger then life creature like every other game that knows the name but not actually knows about the origin.

You are overthinking it mate. Different sizes is just for variety. There are overly large boars, spiders, and mosquitoes. Arguably the flesh hulks are oversized (don't know if there is any lore behind it, but the "hulk" comes from overgrown muscles from aether infusion, yet the skeletal frame is oversized along with it).

Hyper-realistic games are boring. Most of the fun of gaming is to escape reality, not mimic it exactly.

Of course you are right. But it has always annoyed me that they are nowhere near to what a wendigo suposed to look like.
Was just saying that if they made em humansize then they wouldve been perfect :D

Just think of them as larger than tue life forms as an aether induced growth spurt. A mutation of the species as these are much more ferocious than the real fantasy counterparts.

Fantasy worlds constantly riff on real world mythology and change it around a bit. Not like wendigos are the only concept that gets abstracted in fiction a lot.

Ah, that is why Wendigo Totem acts like it does...with Vitality Drain and all. Was wondering why it was.

Nice reference Crate!

You do know that Wendigos don't actually exist, right?

Wendigos have hundreds of discriptions and no... They dont dress up... The wendigo is nature punishing the human for the sin of consuming human flesh...
Thats why their skull changes over time... Turning into that of a deer...
They are skinny and bony but strong af...

At least they're not the wendigos from Until Dawn.

I've also heard of Wendigo's being "wind creatures" that capture lost travelers and drag them through the sky so fast that they burst into flames. So take your pick of what you want to believe they are.

Yep... Hell theres a story saying that there were 2 survivors of the donner party and one turned into a wendigo while the other hid and ate the rations the group had...
There are hundreds of versions...
So no one is right in their discription...

The only right description is that who made it in first place. Yes its mythology, you can take it with a grain of salt, but from all creatures and monsters, this one is probably the most scariest. Plenty of events that involved cannibalism and the way wendigos are discribed in native amirican lore, theyre "just" cannibals.
And just because it is mythology doesnt make it fantasy, cannibals existed, there is no deniying that. I love mythology, read up on greek lore, irish, etc But theres not a single creature that comes close to "it might have actually been real" then wendigos, because in the end, its just another name for cannibal.

arent wendigo are just a ghoul from america? someone who possesed by demon that acting like animal tend to do cannibalism. is not common in america since they posses many forest and swamp. native american shaman are the one to blame for it, they always offering to "nature" but offering something to the a thing that doesn't have any meaning, always leading to make a demon love staying in that place.

Wendigo means "The evil that devour" The legends mostly (Key word MOSTLY) say that they eat human flesh... The wendigo has many things writen about it so a few years ago I took every bit of info I found on the little bastards and I made my own version... Its skin is hard to the touch with a wooden texture... It has small patches of thin white hair covering its body at random... Its skull changed... The skin from its head fell off or rotted away and left the skull with only the muscles needed to move the mouth... Its skull now resembles more that of a deer... It sprouted antlers... It grows in size to nearly 15 feet tall... Its teeth become razor sharp... and its finger nails grow to around 5 feet long... The nails are razor sharp... It becomes incredable fast... It has the strength of 100 men... It lives in the heavily wooded areas of a cold, snow covered, frost bitten land... The only way to kill it? You stab it in the heart with a silver dagger to destroy its icy heart then you chop its arms and legs off with a silver axe and finally you salt and burn the remains all in different areas that are far away from eachother... Failure to do this? The wendigo will rise again and slaughter the hunter... Slowly... Its name means greed... Hunger... The death of anyone who steps foot on those sacred lands...
But thats just my version... Using all the pieces of everyone elses... I guess that kinda proves the fact that you cant say one thing is right... Because there is always another...

my version of wendigo, since it near with a ghoul, is a native american shaman that made pact with demon, since mostly a man need pact to be possesed by demon. thier appearance are huge figure because human body have a high adaptive and growing ability, and mostly are human figure but wearing beast fur & headress(like shaman always wear) from before possessed that make them look like a beast.
