Thoughts about Aegis of Menhir (Captain America skill)
I think the skill is not powerfull enough to have CD, Im not saying it has to be broken and kill everything from one hit, but if an skill has CD i at least expect something like ravenous earth, i feel that removing cd via skill points should solve this, cause i feel the skill low damage and i cant even spam it,
I have all devotion points into fire or elemental and most of the items with elemental, and im level 27, (i have the skill maxed with all the subskills and all the points in main bar to unlock Divine Mandate, hoping the damage changes).
Thank you for reading.

Well at end game, check out this set https://www.grimtools.com/db/itemsets/143

-0.4 Second Skill Recharge to Aegis of Menhir on the amulet.

The complete set gives +18% Skill Cooldown Reduction. Combine this w/ other cooldown reduction you can obtain. Not to mention almost 1 in 3 shield throws resets the cooldown.

Finally, there's a shield and an Ugdenbog Repeater https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/11787
that shaves off another .5 secs each on the cooldown.

I may have even missed some stuff, looks pretty badass towards endgame.

Ya it feels off to me too. I would guess they use an algorithm to determine damage bonuses based on CD, and with Aegis the CD is so short that it doesn't get much bonus, but long enough to be awkward to use. Like you want to use it as often as possible to get the most out of it, but there's very little time between uses to do anything else, you can try to squeeze a couple base attacks in by mashing both mouse buttons as fast as you can, but I often find myself just standing or running around a bit waiting for the CD.

I think they went with the CD for presentation purposes, like to make it look like you are throwing the shield and it's returning to you before you throw it again. Mechanically it just doesn't feel great to me though. It's satisfying to see the shield ping-pong between enemies, but it feels like it should be a spammable ability, and not just at end-game with specific gear choices.

I'm sure it will fit in plenty of rotations, you're making it sound like the game forces you to only use the shield throw:debuff, throw shield follow up with something else, throw shield again.

I like it...fully skilled and with DoT it does insane damage and cd is super short...feels good. Only skill that does the job done on early ultimate for me.

There are so many skills in this game I don't like, guess what, I just don't use them.
You don't like the skill, fine pick something else.

I think it's a fun skill, not everything has to be super op, it's a decent skill but not really perfect for a main attack.

Haha. Rotations. Cute.

The CD is too short. If it was a 5-10 second CD skill, ya, you fill the gaps with something else. There's not much you can do in under 2 seconds, especially not with how the game handles skill queuing. Good luck with your "rotations" with a skill that has a 30% chance to reset it's CD too, if you aren't standing there spamming the skill button then you are wasting it, and all that dead time when it doesn't proc feels bad.

Hmm, I actually like the skill so far on my lowbie Oathkeeper (I don't have nearly as much free time to play anymore as I'd like baaaah), but it sounds like it definitely should get looked at for a retune, unless it is the developers intention to have it take a utility role (with some light damage) at higher levels?

I have to admit, even at my mid 20s Warlord I am finding Force Wave more efficient for knocking heads than the Aegis. But as the OP says, it has that Captain America feel. :P

On my end, the skill feel really good, good damage, and the cooldown feels good, Throw>Charge>Attack>Throw, ect, 3 second is perfect for my build, and i always double click in case it reset

I did give this skill a try with my level 87 sentinel on Ultimate but I haven't been able to construct a good build after spending about 4,000,000 in iron. I am going to give my build a re-think again.

It's a lot better with Judgment. If you time it right you can get the entire group of enemies into its small AoE, which then triples~hextuples depending on upgrade.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

What would be the perfect class to match with this set in mind?
