I'm looking for a Primal Strike build that isn't Lightning
I really like the range and funk on Primal Strike, but lightning feels like a terrible attack type...

Now, I could try to find as much Convert Lightning to Aether gear as possible - but that's a lot of itemization that might be better fixed with build setup

First off Id question why you'd be better off using savagery or cadence, but a bleed/phys damage build would probably work ok, with something like gutripper for ranged or gutsmasher for melee

Because Primal Strike hits the entire planet at the same time with only minor range increases.

Why does lightning feel like a terrible attack type? The sometimes-awkward resist reduction skills/devotions?

Primal Strike's gear support for non-lightning damage types is almost nonexistent. Maybe you could manage something with Avenger's Crusher converting lightning to physical or convert part of it to Aether but you'll end up missing a lot of skill points or % damage I think.

It's typically the lack of passive lightning resist reduction (as well as high elemental resist on most enemies)

I should specify I mean WITH the Thunderous Strike mod, not just regular Primal Strike

Conjurer or Vindicator are your best bets for high quality-of-life elemental resist reduction. Conjurer might be a bit more offensive with some attack speed and full-time OA buff, Vindicator more defensive with Inquisitor's Seal, Word of Renewal, and Censure's damage debuff.

Primal Strike is kinda tricky to convert coz there's little conversion lightning-to-else. There's a Conduit of Wild Whispers amulet modifier that converts 100% lightning to aether damage for Primal Strike, but then you'd have to find gear to actually support that build. Aether doesn't really have much choice when it comes down to two-handers; my best bet would be Vortex of Souls, with that 100% chance to pass through enemies it could wreak havoc all around, at least theoretically.

And I do mean passive reduction, since for active reduction there's Thermite mines

Truly passive resist reduction is pretty rare in GD. Fortunately if you can stand Thermite Mines using any other form of resist reduction should be like that first drink after a long day's work.

An Elementalist is largely stuck with devotion procs for passive elemental/lightning resist reduction. Arcane Bomb, Elemental Storm, maybe the weak RR type from Viper's last node vs your main target.

Arcane bomb, tempest of storms, crown, viper all have plenty of RR specially when TS Primal strike lightning builds can easily pump out 150k + damage with fairly common gear.

Ya, I did well with it on my Warder, even though it didn't have any internal synergy.

I didn't even take Raging Tempest

as mentioned, the conduit of wild whispers will convert lighning to aether. if you make a ritualist, spectral wrath from the necromancer tree will passively reduce resistances when they hit you. m. temporal arcblade is 100% aether damage with bonuses to spectral wrath, too.

i've looked into it and there's a build on the forum for it. krieg's set was used. i have like 10 of those amulets if you're interested. and the sword blueprint.

Arg, there's soooooo many unique prefixes in Ashes - they completely open up entirely new builds

Why don't I see any Druid builds that combine Mavin's Sphere of Protection with Primal Bond? Or does Damage Reduction not stack this way?

Im not sure but i dont think it does I believe it just uses the larger of the two values (much like resist reductions of the same type)
