Ok after finishing the game, I'm ready to give it the thumbs up. There are some things that potential players of the game should be aware of before purchasing however, as they may dramatically effect enjoyment of the game:

1. The art style of the game, it really worked in some respects (Such as the Harveys/demons) but in other respects it was kind of lacking, such as the mouth animations of the characters.

2. Some of the puzzles in the game require a large amount of discrete math, so I hope you took a class in it in your undergraduate. Break out the truth tables! You can skip all of these puzzles though. I recommend trying your hand at them though if you have a familiarity with these sort of logic puzzles.

3. Acheivements straight up arn't working as of 11/28/13. If you're an acheivement ♥♥♥♥♥ like myself, this will disappoint you, and reduce your game completion % if you're keeping track of that.

4. Not so much a problem, but a warning. Art style notwithstanding, this ain't a kid's game. Were this game a movie, I'd rate it R. I wouldn't even recommend playing this in the same house as a kid.

That said, even with those caviats, the game is worth playing because:

1. The dark humor of the game is done well.

2. Solid endings

3. Most of the use thing on thing puzzles are fairly straightforward.

Anyway all told, I enjoyed it, you might too.

Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes is a point and click adventure game developed by Daedalic Entertainment.


The game begins in a strict boarding school run by a female monastic order. The head of the monastery order is Abbess Ignatz. One of the students is Lilli, the main character. She is a shy, insecure little girl who doesn't dare speak publicly. She does not have opinions of her own (or is afraid to say them) and performs all charged tasks. Another student is Edna and it is obvious that she is not as crazy as in The Breakout. The abbess can no longer bear the youthful behavior. That's why she wants to get Doctor Marcel. He needs to brainwash the children so that they will all be good and humble. When Edna hears this news, she wants to flee: She pushed Doctor Marcel down the stairs at the end of The Breakout and left him for dead, although she cannot remember the reason. She is now afraid that Doctor Marcel will want revenge if he finds her. Therefore Edna gives Lilli the task of removing all evidence of Edna's presence.

The game takes place in a 2D cartoon world. The player controls Lilli. Unlike most other adventure games, there are no clickable dialogs. After the player has clicked on a character, a bar appears with some symbols that indicate a topic. The game also does not have a list of actions such as walking, looking, speaking, picking up, using. If applicable, items are automatically added to inventory when the user clicks them. In addition, the user must combine items in their inventory to create new ones (or modify existing items). Objects in the inventory can be assigned to other characters or combined with items that are not in the inventory. Since the main character of this game is interrupted every time he tries to speak, a narrator gives the necessary explanations. He has a dark sense of humor and comments on Lilli's actions accordingly.

BottomLine at the Top: A weird P&C adventure with a timidly devious and sweet psychotic convent schoolgirl main character. It's an excellent Daedalic Entertainment title that keeps with their tradition of high production value game play for bizarre and sometimes longwinded stories.

-It’s a VisionAire Studio 4 game that didn't require any messing around with screen resolution to ultimately just run in a windowed mode. (This alone was amazing.)
-Female protagonist with a sweet and demented story. Starts off very innocent and cute and slowly devolves into the menacing and bizarre tale, but in a funny way.
-Animations and overall art design are simplistic but still high quality and well-polished.
-Original soundtrack
-"Quality of life" features: object highlight function, skip minigame (thank god), double click travel to next room, continue function when picking up game where you left off.
-I don't usually comment on this but this game does have a good tutorial for players that are new to p&c games. It’s a feature that I usually unappreciate being the P&C veteran I am ;). But it’s nice to see that they are making it accessible for newcomers to the genre.
-Steam Screenshot support.
-large professional voice cast, well recorded.
-Stable. Starts right up and no major crashing or bugs (Minus some RPG mini game issues).
-The whole thing has a European Tim Burton/Fran Bow feel to it which I enjoyed.


Meh.

-No autosaving, only resume game function. 12 save slots, which for this game is fine but for some reason I did not keep up with saving like I usually do, ended up having to replay some ending scenes to get back to multiple ending choice point.
-Also, the escape key cancels dialogue and I missed the beginning dialogue of chapter 2 as my last save was farther back than I wanted to reload. This is more my bad, but an autosave feature could have negated this issue in the first place.
-I felt the inventory access method was not aesthetically pleasing.
-Like most Daedalic games, the dialogue can be excessively wordy at times.
-The humor can fall flat at times, which seems to be a running theme of Daedalic adventure games I've played. It does picks up more from a comedic perspective in the second half of the game.
-Reuses descriptions the same descriptions of inventory items that they used in the environment. Not a huge deal but I feel a different shorter description when in the inventory has a better feel to it.
-This game uses the "go to the next scene to make an action happen in the scene you were just in" mechanic. It's not always clear when this is going to occur, and you can end up stuck in a scene wondering what to do next if you have done everything else there is to do in other scenes already. It is often done in a funny way, but it’s frustrating to feel stuck when all you must do is move to the next scene.
-I liked the completely random RPG battle near the end. However, at one point it froze in game and I had to retry the battle. Also, not all the battle commands functioned properly (used regular attacks instead of magic and things like that.)


Cons

-The Minigame puzzles. MY GOD they are some of the hardest I've faced in a P&C in recent memory. A lot of use variations on formal logic puzzles, which usually give me a headache. Luckily there is the skip minigame function (except for the final pizza minigame). I usually try to solve them on my own, but my success rate was very low for this title.
-It can be perilous to balance the tone of a game like this properly especially when bringing it to the U.S market. Trying to mix a morbid cuteness and dark humor with the semi-sordid tale of an orphan girl can be challenging to pull off consistently. I've noticed this kind of tone balancing issue in other Daedalic games as well and I've yet to figure out if it’s something lost in translation or if it’s some cultural difference that isn't coming across well. If any readers of this review have picked up on this vibe and can expand on what I'm attempting to explain please leave a comment below!


It feels like the target audience for a game such as this is alternative type girls/women with a demented sense of humor. But overall, I recommend this game to all P&C aficionados as I think it can be appreciated by most adventure gamers. The hit or miss jokes mostly hit. The story kept me engrossed in the game play and the polished nature of the game was very professional. It's really keeping in the spirt of Daedalic adventure games that I've come to expect. At approx. 6 hours of game play (plus another 45-60 minutes if you try to tackle the puzzles on your own) for $20 it is very pricey. Older Daedalic games are often on sale for significant discounts though (I got this one for $2), so I highly recommend it when on sale to any P&C game fan!

So the 2nd part for me. I play this 1st part now after 2nd part Break Out . Its a bit long ago but i was directly back in the game, even if the parts are 2 differents in second you play Edna to Escape and now you see the beginning with Lilly. The story is curious and with many funny parts again. I love the style of Daedaldic Games and the strange art they bring in games. Enjoy this game if you like point and click adventurs or a high mid class story. You dont need to play Break out first but i find it would be better. So i give this game for the fun i had 92 % because i love Point and Click games, for others its mabe to high points, but watch trailer and decide yourself if you want play the game and how much you think its worth and than buy it when the price is fine (50% better 66-75% discount). Thank you for reading and hopefully enjoy the puzzles, characters and tale parts.

In a censored world, violence is wiped away and reality is coated in pink fantasy.

At first glance I thought this was going to be some kiddy game, based on the cartoon-like graphics. But rest assured that it's not! There's a fair bit of humorous (censored) violence in this title, with interesting puzzles to boot, and even a turn-based strategy mini-game. The story is also pretty entertaining, with 3 different endings. The first chapter had excellent dark humour. After that, the story took a major turn and things slowed down a bit, but the game still managed to successfully hold my interest. All in all this game is of good length, ranks high on enjoyment + originality, and is pretty immersive. Both kids and adults will enjoy it.

Here are those I encountered:

1. The first save game I made would not load & I had to start over.
   
2. In the turn-based strategy mini-game, sometimes characters can only move once, despite already successfully having chosen the option to let them move twice; there are various other bugs in this mini-game.
   
3. Pressing "Esc" does not work sometimes, causing you to be unable to skip cutscenes and access the menu to save your game - make sure you save frequently in case this happens!
   
4. When you enter the Wild West hypno scene, sometimes the "restrictions" menu does not appear, and you have to "unhypnotise" yourself, then "rehypnotise" yourself again, before the menu will show up.
   
5. Tons more - these are only those I can remember.

Save before you attempt them, because on first try you'll have to figure out what the hell you're supposed to do, since the in-game instructions are useless. They need to give more specific instructions like for example, once you've finished steps 1 and 2, exit this screen and make your selection in the game itself, or something like that. When you play it, you'll know what I mean - puzzle intros were not intuitive in the least.

I got this game at $1, when there was a Daedalic games bundle sale (5 for $5). Considering the number of gameplay hours and the amount of positive utility I derived from it, this was a great buy.

A rollercoaster ride chocked with mind-control, death, psychosis, and a talking rabbit. A good game to go in blind. It's a real shocker, with tons of dark humor. Its set in the Edna & Harvey universe, but has no real ties to the first game. It has greatly improved gameplay and stability over the first. I'd almost call it a must play.


Dear potential customer, if you are reading this, I have one humble request. If you are interested in this game, don't watch the video on the store page. Seriously, go in blind. I knew very little about the game, and boy was I shocked by the experience. I'm kind of scratching my head as to why Daedelic felt the need to spoil the premise of the game in the first 30 seconds of their trailer.

The game itself is a spiritual successor to "Edna and Harvey: The Breakout". You don't need to play that one first, but characters and locations from the first game are used in this one. Unlike the Breakout, it's a massive improvement in quality, stability, and overall gameplay. A few of the puzzles are a bit mind bending, but nothing too difficult or confusing. It's a lot easier than the first game.

A warning, the opening credits are long and LOUD, they nearly blew my ears out. Feel free to skip them, you won't miss much, and your ears will thank you.


The game uses the "Monkey Island"-style formula, cutting the game into easily digestible chapters for you to puzzle through. It introduces an odd system of restrictions halfway through the game that add extra constraints to your ability to solve the game's puzzles. This system doesn't feel fully realized, and feels more tacked on to the experience. I will give them credit for trying something new, though.

The biggest thing the game has going for it is its atmosphere. It has a thin coat of innocence over what is an astoundingly dark game. I mean dark as in subject matter. The game gets pretty grim. This is why I warned above. Go in completely blind if you are looking to be unsettled or shocked. The first act is front-loaded with this style of humor.


The characters are fairly one note and flat, but I don't feel like that really detracts completely from the whole experience. There are so many point-and click adventure games that have heroes who are lovable goofs with a penchant for inventiveness and luck. In their adventures, they somehow manage to get by relatively unscathed, despite being pathological kleptomaniacs and daredevils. Here, it's interesting to see the more "hazardous" side of this archetype being explored, when normally it gets glossed over.


I still debate whether or not this one should be considered as one of the greats in the genre.


Steam Curator

I will recommend as it is a very good (if weird) Point and click *BUT those playing *MUST be made *AWARE There is a **CRUEL BUG that has not been fixed, which is crazy as its now 2023 . The bug is very bad as it is near the end of ACT 2. I am unable to ask a shaman about some deodorant which is crucial to defeat a creature to progress the game. Why this is cruel is because you could spend hours scratching your head thinking it is all your own fault but turns out the game has a BUG. SO BE AWARE if you get to that point there is a solution fix on the forum to download a saved game Why this has not been fixed in 11 years is joke. Other than that, the game is great fits well with the other awesome point and click adventure games.

An interesting and very well done point-and-click game. Apparently, it's a sequel to "Edna & Harvey: The Breakout." But, it's independent enough to be played stand-alone. Because of the age of the main character and some implications from the narrator right at the start, you might be tempted to consider this to be a child's game. It's not. It's an adult's game hiding slightly behind a childlike irony. I bought it on sale for about $4 and that's a no-brainer of a purchase. Absolutely worth that. I'd say it would still be well worth it at around $10. It's current list price of about $20 might be a bit high, though.

I do have some issue with the game, too. First, it's slow to play. But, that's endemic to these point-and-clicks since you've got to watch the character walk around, interact with the world, and converse. Mitigating that is the saving grace that a lot of that kind of thing can be ESCaped out of or clicked through. Second, some of the puzzles are not exactly obvious in what they want you to do. This is especially true with the mini-games embedded in it. Heck, the "solutions" from two of those mini-games were still obtuse enough to be of no use to me in the game proper. And, finally, a lot of the achievements are royal pains. They're not achievements that enhance gameplay. Instead, they're of the form of "do some pointless activity enough times for me to say "you win." But, all-in-all, it's a very good game.

I love this game, but since it has a game-breaking bug (the shaman one) that the developer has refused to fix for years, I cannot recommend the game. Very disappointing for a game that felt like it was crafted with love until I've seen the dev behave this way.
