Don't Starve

LOW FPS/STUTTER FIX on high-end PC's (nvidia)
Hey, I was like 3-4 hrs into a game when I suddenly got crash and the game started to be very jittery, stuttering mess. At first I thought it's because of SLI, so I've disabled it, and it didn't work. Verified install. Nope. Reinstall. Nope. Maybe Gsync/Vsync messing it up? Seems like it. So there goes the fix that made it for me:

---

My spec:
i7 4790K
2x 1080 GTX
32GB RAM
G-SYNC display @144Hz

---

1) Fire up nVidia's control panel (right click on desktop and select it)
2) Go to "Manage 3D settings"
3) Select tab "Application settings"
4) Select "Don't Starve (dontstarve_steam.exe)"
5) Change these values:
a) Preffered refresh rate – managed by application
b) Display technology – fixed refresh rate
c) Tripple buffering – On (force it)
d) Vertical Sync. – Off

And it all went super buttery smooth without hicups, dips and stutter. So I hope it helps some other folks aswell!

PS: For AMD users it might be very similar, but I'm not an AMD user, so I cannot really say.

@Obsolete: Cant hurt to try, if that doesnt help, try verifing your game and check CPU utilization, sometimes it messes up.

@OmegaKiller: Might be both, although my guess is that its not GPU related - I'd go with verifying the game via steam, if you have any mods, try to turn them off and see if its gone. If not, you can reinstall GPU driver and directx. If you see some pattern in what causes those freezes (using certain item, doing sth) it will help to address the issue.

fixed it by disabling minimap mod, it was lagging too much with wormholes mod but thanks

Glad to hear you've managed to fix it! Enjoy the game :)

You don't understand how much I appreciated finding this! Seriously was going crazy mad; I can run ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ full 3D games but this 2D shady boy is giving me grief?!

Couldn't find/figure out modern NVIDIA panel version of:

"5) Change these values:
a) Preferred refresh rate – managed by application
b) Display technology – fixed refresh rate"

Just wasn't there, but the reminder to take v-sync off and force triple-buffering seemed to greatly help, THANK YOU!

I have this issue using a high-end gaming laptop with 2 video cards. My brand new fancy pants Geforce RTX 2060 has mild stutters every 2-3 seconds. The game seems to run at about 57 frames. The above solution didn't help me.

SOLUTION:
Go to NVidia control panel.
Program Settings -> Don't Starve together
Use integrated graphics.

Now the game runs smoothly at 60 fps.
