Well the thing is. I am not sure which way WILL give me most enjoyment, that's why I am asking others.
It can be fun reading the wiki too. I actually watched Sips alot, and that is what convinced me to play Don't Starve. I knew the basics, because Sips was no pro, but I read the wiki and I still find it fun.
Well I mean how developer meant it to be played. New contet is very complex so I am wondering if that's meant to be learn just by playing,
It's good to know for example the relative effectiveness of melee weapons. It's not always apparent which does more damage.
Recipes are tedious to learn and some things you would not even guess could go in a crock pot..
The use of the different mushrooms (cooked vs. raw) is confusing even with the wiki.
I am not hesitant to use the wiki if I get stuck or am not sure of something. I have said before evven asking questions here is comparable to wiki use because many people answer with wiki sourced material.
So, really whatever gets you through the night is OK by me. : )
Especially in an exploration game like this, IMO it is much more fun trying to figure out things by myself. Then again, I do understand some people enjoy reading through wikis and guides and then using this knowledge in the game. To me it's very much like cheating (in a survival/exploration game like this).
All in all, the responses here are the way to go: play like you would enjoy a game like this. Build a fort. Explore the wicked caves. Try to survive 365 days in a row. Die to killer bees in the darkness of winter. Laugh ironically for your last breath.
Hopefully someone describes a playstyle that would fit you.
