2 gold 1 gear 1 plank
Killing the Bishops or the Knights near the Telepotato. They always drop 2 gears (and the bishop also drops a purple gem)>
Or you can dig graves. There is a chance to get a gear from the grave, altough it is a small chance.
You can survive the winter with out a frigde, you just need to turn your meat into jerk.
The easiest food source in winter is rabbits. If your base is near some rabbits holes, you are going to be fine.
You can catch rabbits with traps, without the need of a bait.
Just drop the trap between the rabbit and his hole and then chase him.
Another source of meat is Spider's monster meat. If you turn them into "monster jerk", they just take out 5 sanity.
But, of course, the best use for monster meat, in my opinion, is to turn pigs into werepigs, so you can slain them easily, getting 2 meats and 1 pig skin!
You can also cook with monster meat. If you use only one it will count as if you used normal meat. Just don't mix in durian with monster meat because you'll get monster lasagna which is bad.
This at the BEGINNING of winter is a very good idea, imo. It allows you to get an item to make a very snazzy, lucious item to help you take the edge off of winter. ^_^
Freshly cooked spider bacon. Mmmm.
Okay, to be honest? I have my doubts about making bacon from giant spiders. Or all-arthropod meatballs made from spider meat and butterfly wings; that one seems a bit strange, too.
