Traps: am I missing something?
Just got the game, and I've built a trap (most basic version). I set it on the ground with LMB, and then throw some seeds on it as bait. Two birds have landed right on the trap now and have not gotten caught. Am I doing something wrong? Perhaps the first trap doesn't work with birds?

You must put carrots on it

never mind, just saw that the bird trap is a separate trap. Oops!

Never had to use carrots for rabbits, they come check out the traps in most cases, also plopping them over the rabbit hole helps. :)

You can also chase them(or be chased) into one as you can with nearly all of the small creatures.

yeah I've been living off rabits for a while now. Just died in second game in 21st day. An army of penguins jumped out of the sea and attacked...

The trap you were using was for rabbits
you need to create a special trap for birds.

Ok, so basically is another game designed like Terraria or Minecraft: the kind of game that makes you use the wikipedia, otherwise you can not work out how to do things because a) it is not obvious or intuitive and b) there is no tutorial nor clues nor help in game. Some developers have high expectations about the effort that the players will put on learning how to play their game...

Edit. On a more careful look I noticed that the description of the second trap let you know this. I did't notice that at first, I don't check description of items that are still locked. I just played about 20 min and came here looking for help because I was already stuck with the trap not catching birds... I guess I have not much patience today.

:dswilson:
Baiting rabbit traps isnt worth it anyway.
A berries hunger value is 12.5
A carrots hunger value is 12.5
A morsels value is 12.5
No matter what you give up it will be the same as what is returned.
Your better off just putting the trap over the hole.

You can also use the trap to catch frogs and spiders. Just lure them into it.

Put 4 traps per rabbit hole.
Set them up like the traps are the tips of a plus(+) symbol, with the center being the rabbit hole. Go out and do other things.
Come back later.
Collect 2-4 rabbits.
REPEAT.

This can really eat through a small grass and stick supply, especially if you find a solid patch of rabbit holes.

Combine with drying rake and you have a tasty treat for the road!

You can scare rabbits into the traps you know.
Or put a carrot some distance from the trap, then pick up the loot and the carrot.
