So trees don't grow back from stumps?
Or at least that's what I read. This wouldn't bother me so much if it were not for the fact that before I get a shovel I have a bunch of stumps just laying around, which kinda makes me OCD.

Edit: How about flowers? I have heard of planting butterflys to grow flowers (What?) but do the grow naturaly throughout the map?

Nope they dont grow back. Best to feed like 3-5 pigs some meat go into a forest with hundreds of trees, equip axe, chop a tree once, equip shovel, hold space bar and watch as the pigs clear a whole area of trees while you pick up logs, acorns and dig up stumps. This is also a great way to increase sanity as you are surrounded by firendly pigs.

Nope. if you leave a stump, it stays a stump. You have to plant a whole new tree.
Shovel is actually an efficient way to get logs. I like the look of a field of stumps anyway, especially when I put down tooth traps. Looks rugged and threatening and stumps dont burn meaning if fire hounds dies there there isn't a huge forest fire.

I think bees slowly multiply flowers over time but I'm not sure. I'm not sure because if it is the case, it's so slow I hardly notice unless I think back to how many flowers there actually were before I came and camped the area.

Im sure butterlies spawn flowers. I could be wrong. I only got the game a few days back.

Edit: Yep checked the wiki, when you capture a butterfly, you have the option of planting it, after which it will become a flower lol. Get yourself a bee box and make a massive patch of flowers, watch how fast honey will be made XD.

Flowers don't respawn on their own though, so don't go crazy picking every petal you see or you'll have trouble later.

You have to catch butterflies with the bug net and plant them. Killing them just gives you their wings.

Pigs are your best lumberjack friends for sure. Whenever I need wood I just feed about 5 of them monster meat and have them level the forest and kill a few spiders along the way.

Warning: there needs to be alot of flowers in an area for butterflies to spawn, which means the resource IS renewable but can be misused and be removed from your world.

Nope, doesn't need to be a lot. Just means less butterflies will spawn though.
