Spider Queen?

I have yet to see a Spider Queen so I'm curious as to how they spawn. Is it just by a random chance or does a spider nest have to grow to a certain size or something?
I'm sure not ready (or smart enough), to take one on yet but I hope to in the future. I also heard they drop something that controls spiders or something?
A little info and maybe some tips would be greatly appreciated friends! :3

spider queens come in teir three of the spider nest if you leave them for too long the will hatch they come at around 25 to 30 days

Ya once you get through your first winter, those nests will have queens popping out of them left and right. Once you kill off the initial defenders, when you approach the nest and start attacking it, a queen will pop out and the nest will become level 1 again. If you have a close cluster of nests, it's possible to have up to 3 queens on screen at a time. Things can get a little crazy.

By the second summer, they show up everywhere. I constantly run into them in pairs, and it's a real pain to kill them, so I either ignore them or use the fire staff.

Ah alright I see. Thanks everyone! I think Ive only made it to day 26 so yea....
I think I'll go with the burn baby burn method
but does anyone know if the Spider Queen Hat will get turned to ashes from fire?

No idea. But I tend to not use them. They don't last long at all, and its hard to tell how reliable they are.

The spider queen drops will turn to ash if you use fire or gunpowder. I just killed my first spider queen and got the spider hat! I actually tried to use gunpowder after freezing the queen, but I guess I was too slow. There was a big explosion from my 10 gunpowder (overkill) explosion I ran from, but the queen then followed me. Then the hounds attacked, lucky I was in a big pig camp in daylight. When they were dead, I kited the queen and hit her and her spawned spiders with a ham bat until she died. So chuffed to get a spider hat! Off to the wiki I go. It's probably useless, but it's a SHINY NEW THING so I don't care!

By the way, if you leave the spider queen alone too long, or sometimes in the middle of fighting her, she'll plop down and turn into a tier 1 spider den. So if you want to fight, make it fast and keep at it until she dies. Be prepared for the sanity loss (and health loss if you are as sucky at kiting as me).

This happened to me in my current playthrough. I play as Wigfrid and honestly the Queen is a joke. I have 3 spider nests near my base and I had the chance to kill 2 queens.

For me, the best way to kill the spider queen is to first take out all of the spiders before she spawn. When that is over, hit her 3 times then run out of here melee range. If she spawn spiders, kill those then continue the previous step. If playing as Wolfgang, she dies VERY quickly.

I've taken on 3 spider queens using this method:
Step One: Acquire 5 gunpowder, ice staff or pan flute, and a torch
Step Two: Freeze/Sleep the Spider queen.
Step Three: Lay down gunpowder next to spider queen and ignite it.
Step four: Wait for the fire on the spider queen to die down.
Step 5: Hit it once.
Step 6: Profit.
