How do you rekindle a fire pit?

Whenever I examine a fire pit my character says "At least I can start it up again". I assume this means you can rekindle the fire, but how can you do this?

You add a fuel source like you usually would.
Click on a burnable item in your inventory and use it on the fire pit.
