How to catch fish in winter?
Hello this is my first winter and I wonder how can I catch fish?

The pond is frozen so is there anyway to break it?

No fish in winter. : (

Unless you add a mod. This mod might be outdated.

O_o why no fishing?

A lot of resources either don't spawn or don't renew in winter in order to drive home the point that Winter is harsh and you need to prepare for it. If you're low on options Rabbits still spawn in Winter, which is enough to cook Meatballs just by itself (although finding other filler would be more efficient).

Thats sad, cause fishing is the key to survive harsh winters, just like arctic people do.
Necro post

A good enough reason

Sorry for the late response but I just wanted to address that there is a way to get fish during the winter and without modding. The "Merm" drop fish when killed. There should be a bunch of Merm in the swamp and its fairly easy to trick them into battling the swamp tentacle so they'll do all the work for you.

I always make sure the swamp is near the base I setup for a few good reasons and this is one of them. It makes fish farming during the winter easy. And fish give you fish sticks in the crock pot which is a high HP food to make. When you're constantly dropping HP from freezing in the winter, being able to make fish sticks makes winter much easier.

Hope this helps
Please no more necro posting.

This is obsolete though. You need swamp aka reeds to make a birdcage and then with the birdcage you can produce pierogi which is wildly discussed the best healing item there is. Fishsticks are just for nomad and early games for quick heals. Fish sticks are bad because they need "rare" materials aka fish and spoil super fast. And yellow or red fishsticks heal like nothing.

I mean i wouldn't mind necro posting if it gave at least a super helpful tip or important missing info, but this is trivia at best, if at all.
Besides merm hunting is much more fun in gorge :D

Again your information was rubbish so to speak. Sry to be so blunt, but cheap excuses for necroposting aren't smart.

For example you could gave the better information to go find ponds in caves instead. Winter is good time to go spelunkying anyway, since down there you don't have to worry about deerclops and ponds can't freeze in the caves. And getting a warm thermal stone is actually very easy in caves, because of the common earthquakes / stalagmites.
In there you can even get eels and make more water based crockpot recipes.

Again telling people to go to swamp in winter only to find fish is kinda useless. Swamp is a death trap for most newcomers, especially seeking for food. Searching for a swamp in winter is like the worst tip you can give. There is no McTusk in swamp like never. No good loot there and only deadly tentacle traps.

And yes necroposting is a widespread issue, since it clutters up forums with needless spam.
This question got answered over 5 years ago. And you simply wanted to necropost for your own egoistic "needs". Necroposting would only help if it included superior or much needed left out information. Again: Your post is awkward trivia at best ...

Keep on staying stubborn, but you are still causing issues for other forum goers and readers.
Your choice if u like staying egoistic and advise resistant.

Spam and repost solved issues is against forum rules btw. Also bumping threads, which includes useless necroposting.

You sure have some sort of werid crusade against "necroposting"

I love how you spend like, several comments arguing about this and keeping the post alive, then finally add some useful information like how it's useful to go down into the caves, which if you'd just said that at the beginning and left it there instead of complaining would have probably caused the thread to die down again much sooner.
Necromancy is forbidden magic. Do not tempt the wrath of Mod! :spazhorror:

But yeah, I had to go smack around some merms once for fish during winter when I desperately needed cheap healing. Learning to single-out and kill one is important. There are only so many tentacles around, and once they're killed, that's usually it.

For my preferred play style I use the aquarium or fish farm mod. The aquarium is pretty balanced because while you can breed fish in it, it's harder to find seeds to feed them in winter and the ice freezes over the tank VERY quickly. So you have to keep it directly next to a heat source if you still want the fish inside to thrive. If you can't breed the fish in winter, you can at least keep them as an emergency food source.

Also you can trap rabbits and throw them into a fenced in area, progressively adding more and more rabbits before winter hits. If a giant owns the fence and releases the rabbits, they don't disappear, they still sleep at night- making them attack-able for food.

As a returning player I found this post to be very informative and useful. The drama gave it some extra spice too.
