Use of "Nitre"?

If you have Reign of Giants, it's used to make Endothermic Fires, which reduce your heat levels during summer. If you don't have Reign of Giants, it's just used to make gunpowder, which is useful for downing tougher enemies.

In Reign of Giants, Nitre is also used to craft Morning Star which serves as weapon and a source of light.

endothermic fires and morning stars. if you're not playing RoG, it's useless.
even Webber acknowdleges its basically pointless.
