In Autumm you have to think like a squirrel; stockpile lots of food and resources because plants ain't growin on winter and the cold slows down decomp. My games I generally set up camp near Savannah biomes because of the rabbits (Which make a great source of food in the winter) and Beefalos which their furs are a pretty decent fuel source.

I actually find summer to be my problem season!

Hi. Start the game in Autumn so that you'll have time to build your base(s) and make winter clothing. Beefalo hats are okay for winter if you don't have silk to make the winter hat and/or you don't want to make earmuffs out of rabbit fur.

You'll need to have a crock pot and 4 farms just to make it easier to gather food during Autumn, and if you can find gears, build the refrigerator so you can make dishes ahead of time and store them.

I always try to have two bee boxes because honey is filling and good for your health, not to mention that it doesn't spoil. Your crops won't grow when it freezes, so all you'll have is berries and carrots, if you haven't already harvested everything. You can trap rabbits and birds and dry the meat and/or put it in the crock pot with 3 other vegetables or meat. Stuffed eggplant is good for healing and it's filling. You can also use 4 berries to make Fist Full of Jam, which is pretty filling. If you're lucky, you can grow dragon fruit. When it's cooked in the crock pot, it restores a good amount of health.

Try and track the Koalefant if you see footprints. It drops 8 meat and its trunk can be used to make the breezy vest, which is warmer than the grass and log suits. If you play as Wilson, you can let his beard grow out to keep you warmer.

You can use rotted food and flowers as fuel for your firepit, so try and collect any you see and stock up on manure for backup fuel. I prefer to use those items for fuel instead of using logs, grass, or twigs, but you can if that's all you have. Make the thermal stone and carry it with you when you have to leave the base.

If I think of anything else, I'll post again. Good luck!
@BloomingLilac thanks for the tips and your time for making that message! But question, isnt the Koalefant like incredible hard?

Not really. Bring a log suit and a spear, and you can basically tank it out. The hard part is actually catching it, if you don't have a ranged weapon.

You're more than welcome.

Like Kayeka said, if you're prepared, he isn't that hard to kill. If you take a couple of steps back when he attacks, you can avoid taking too much damage. An easy way to catch him is to corner him so you're not chasing him clear across the map.

If you can, save up some Mandrake roots. When you eat those, your health is restored quite a bit, and it will also put all animals in the vicinity to sleep for a few seconds, including the Koalefant. You can eat two or three of those in a row and take some cheap shots while he's asleep. It makes me a bit sad to kill him because of the way he moans like his heart's breaking. I am very tender-hearted! Hahaha! It's worth it in the end if it keeps you from starving and/or freezing to death, though. Be prepared when you're following those tracks because you might run into a Varg instead. It's a huge boss with sharp teeth and he's quick! Good luck!

*Edited to add that you can fish from the ponds before it freezes. Four fish in the crock pot restores some health, sanity, and hunger. Here's a link to crock pot recipes:

Funny, I used to have lot of problems during winter in the vanilla game, but after coming back to the game, and checking out RoG, I haven't had any problems during winter. :p

Crock pot helps a lot, so make sure you have that build before winter comes. There are some pretty neat recipes that give you good food with cheap/easy to get ingredients. For example, monster meat + 3 ice gets you meatballs. If you don't have ice, you can use berries, carrots and mushrooms as well (if you have any available that is). There are better food recipes as well, but meatballs is what I do most of the time, since they're really easy to make.

If you have silk available, craft yourself a winter hat. If not, you can always catch two rabbits and make yourself some earmuffs. They won't protect you from freezing as much as winter hat does, but it works pretty well when combined with thermal stone. They work even better if you're playing as Wilson with a fully grown beard. At least I've managed to survive just fine with that combo. Hell, I usually don't even make any kind of vest for myself, because I can't find the proper materials for it (I think you need to kill koalefants, which I never really bother to hunt).

When exploring, it's a good idea to carry around a torch, so you can set stuff on fire, which helps keeping yourself warm, incase your thermal stone is starting to get cold, or you're simply about to freeze. I know, it's a bit silly but hey, it works, hehe. :p

And like the previous poster(s) said, stock up on food. Try to find some gears (by digging graves for example) and build yourself an ice box, so your food won't spoil so fast.

If you need to do some hunting, you can try killing pengulls, but since they move in large groups, it's going to be pretty challenging. You can probably lure few of them and kill them one by one. You can also steal their eggs while they're asleep.

Also, be sure to pick the tumbleweeds as you can find rare gems, blueprints, gears, and other items for crafting. I absolutely love them! I've found orange gems in them on my first day more than once.
I just made it past winter AND summer, made it past winter easy but summer oh god summer is heeellll. Funny how last run I only lasted 30 days (my latest high score) and now im close to 100 days... (80)

Winter is easy, it's just annoying. Find a group of spiders and wait for them to hit tier 3. When they do, harvest the eggs and replant the dens closer to your base. Build a birdcage at your base and a second firepit at the spider den. Whenever you need food during winter, go over to the spider dens and bap some of them on the head. You're not guaranteed to get monster meat but spiders respawn every... 45? seconds. Cook the monster meat, feed it to the bird to get eggs, put three eggs + 1 monster meat in the crockpot for a meatballs.

You can also put in 2x monster meat + 2x eggs for a 50% chance at bacon and eggs. It's a better healing item but you may get monster lasagna instead. Still worth it if you're overflowing with meat.

Winter sucks because it stops you from getting things done. You can't just go caving for the entire season like you could pre-RoG either.

I big tip that i could give ( if not already known.) is to build your defences up! I was doing just fine throughout winter and i got attacked by a giant! Out of know where i managed to freeze to death because i had to run away from the camp!

I would also strongly recommend to build blow darts and marble armour as sson as pssible becuase the giants are extremely hard to kill but very useful for the meat and other supplies!
