Explain this to me
I have never seen the point of getting a pitchfork and changning the ground in my base. I mean, what's the point of wasting my wood for a wooden floor? Are there any benifits of changing the flooring or is it purely for aesthetics?

keeps moleworms from getting near your stuff.. other than that, there's not really a huge benefit as far as i know, but i do like to change the turf. i've gone with all marble, wooden, and carpet flooring before.

you can also use the turf as fire fuel if you want.

"Wasting" wood? Because there's so little wood in the world...

Constructed floors prevent Lureplants and their eyes from spawning on them so you don't get your stuff eaten. They also prevent flowers (and therefore evil flowers) from spreading onto them.

The special floors are just for looks, but not like there's a whole lot you can do with marble anyway.

Actually, wood and cobblestone floors increase your character's movement speed, just like walking on a path. And I think (don't quote me on this) having the carpeted floor acts as additional thermal insulation so you don't freeze as quickly in the winter.

Finally there's a mod that allows you to dig and re-plant reeds but only on marsh turf, so if you want to farm reeds near your base camp you'll need to remove a patch of whatever there is nearby and add the marsh turf in.

To late
The wooden flooring doesn't give a increase in speed, but the the cobble one does (i believe its +25%) Also the carpet doesnt give you insulation, though do believe theres a mod for that.:dswilson::dstools:

It takes a while to collect the wood for the floor while I could be getting other stuff so yes, wasting time and wood if it won't give you anything. That wood I would collect could be spent on other items or as fuel.

So there's really no use to flooring then.. cheers!

*Displays embroided Pitchfork*
"Not everyone is born with a blessed silver sword. Not everyone needs one either."
The pitchfork... It is a weapon for the oppressed, the underdogs, the ones left behind. Nobles have swords, Soldiers have spears, barbarians have axes- the pitchfork is the peoples weapon. An improvised trident, a sliver of hope in a moment of desperation- it is a weapon to be used when all else is lost. Forged from whatever's available, handed out to anyone who will take it, used either for the greater good of production, or the dark descent of slaughter. A guns only purpose for existing is to kill- this does not apply to pitchforks, given a productive use, it has slid into society in such a way that people underestimate its true strength. Inpecibile in reach, threefold and sometimes fourfold in devices of piercing, and unstoppable in numbers. In trained hands, the pitchfork is a weapon of mass destruction. Not just a solitary pitchfork, but a concept. A concept that everyone has that power, the power to create Order and Chaos out of the bare bones of reality- no matter how beaten down, or depressed anyone can get- they always have that power to stand, and unite against those against them, no matter the odds. The use of a Pitchfork is this, to cultivate and sustain life- or to retaliate and take life. The only way it can work though- either way, is that many are used in numbers. Strength of the pack. Birds of a feather. A unified struggle. To achieve the Pitchforks infinite potential though, a leader is required to unite the stragglers. Someone who is willing to sacrifice themself entirely for his cause, understand everyone under his command like a brother- and capable of restraining his cause where and whenever unnecessary. Such a shame such a hero doesn't exist. Only a true martyr can fuel the true passion of the pitchfork concept, and even then- the cause is doomed to collapse upon itself, whether it succeeds or not. I carry the pitchfork in hope that others will realize its potential, and use it for the greater good- such a vain hope. I am nothing but a shard of truth in a void of suffering- so the question remains. What will you do when fires start? The Forkborn prepare for the inevitable.

On a serious note, Floors make great fuel- even basic earth turf. So, when you're exploring and want to save fuel consumption for campfires (ie: adventure mode, etc)- bring a pitchfork. Once you got your campfire going, dig the turf up around the camp- and put it into the fire to quickly get it blazing. Its more efficient than wasting logs, etc on fuel- but is primarily useful while you're on the move

I always have a stack of turf with me to keep fires going. This way saves wood or other burnable items. Plus, pulling up squares helps to lay out bases. For example 2 adjacent squares is a good size to place 3 drying racks. I usually have 3 rows to hold 9 racks to string up a koalephant kills straight to jerky.

pitchforks are useful because turf is basically an UNLIMITED source of something to kindle your fire.
