Don't Starve
Question about bees
1) I know bees don't actively come out during the winter, but if you attack a wild bee hive, do the bees come out and fight you? And if so, any tips to destroy them?

2) Early in the game when I just spawned I found a blueprint for a bee box, but now it's the middle of the winter and I have the resources to build a bee box for the summer, I can't find the recipe for the bee box? I searched under the structure tab and near a science and alchemy machine but nothing.

3) Should I destroy the level three spider nest before it spawns a spider queen?

4) I CAN'T FIND AN EYE BONE. I know they are ususally found in the middle of a path BUT I CAN'T FIND IT.

1) Bees will still come out during winter when attacked, my advice is to lead the killer bees to hounds, pigs, beefalo etc- then running away from the chaos to take down the hive while its defenseless

2) It should be in the food tab, if I remember correctly... :P

3) Depends whether its absolutely necessary and if you have the resources to take it down. Rabbit traps also work on spiders, so use those if you're planning to take it down. I personally like waiting for the queens so that I can start a spider infestation in some isolated part of the map- but otherwise I only deal with spiders when I need to.

4) Eye bone can be tough to find, and it can be anywhere- not just by the side of a path. Plus, only one per map- so you may have to explore the whole island before you get the eyebone, I suggest not wasting resources trying to locate it.

Hope that helps :3

1 - Beekeper Hat is a good armor against bees (and only bees, apparently). You can also use a Bug Net to capture the attacking bees instead of killing them. This is a good tip because you just need one hit to capture an attacking bee, while you may need 2-4 hits with a weapon, depending of what you are using.

After capturing the bee, you can murder them in your inventory.

2 - Yes, it is on Food Tab.

Two adivices: First, Bees from a Bee Box don't produce honey on the winter, they need to gather flowers in order to do so. Since they don't leave on winter, no flower gathering. So you may want to plant a lot of flowers need your bee box later on.

Second: Bees from a bee box will attack you when you attempt to collect the honey. Be prepared, meaning use a log armor and a beekeeper hat / any other armor. They won't follow you very far, so run away after collecting.

3 - A level 3 Spider Den always drop Spider Eggs, so you can replant a spider den on other place of the map, a more convenient place. I always tend to avoid Spider Queens, since i don't like the Spider Hat.

4 - I Think Chester is Awesome! Using resources to locate it is not a waste, IMO. And you will also explore the map, something you will need to do one day anyway. The best season to stay far away from camp a long time is Autumn, no rain, no heat wave, no cold wave.

Thanks for the replies! The bee box is indeed in the food tab, that was a mistake on my part xD. I think I would wait for the next summer and attempt to lead some pigs and set traps and bee mines near the nest in order to deal with the spider queen.

Level 3 Spider dens advice:

If the den is far from your base, either ignore it or just destroy it completely and take the spoils. You can take the egg and plant a new Spider nest nearer your base where it will be more convenient to farm Silk. Not too close though, as the Spiders will wander at night.

If the nest is close to you base (but not dangerously so), just farm it as normal. That is, always destroy it when it's level 3, before the Queen spawns, then re-plant it as a level 1 nest.

Nests that are conveniently close to your base should be surrounded by a half dozen traps then left alone until they grow to level 3 again. Just check them occasionally to ensure you don't get a Queen, and to farm the traps for a regular supply of Silk/meat/venom sacs.

If the nest is VERY close to your base, destroy it immediately!

In general there is no good reason to let a Queen spawn unless you are going for the Spider hat she drops (allows you to befriend Spiders). Queens are pretty tough enemies to fight.

I would kill the nest before she hatches. Spider dens are very easy to destroy (even at level 3), Spider Queens are not.

I planted an lureplant near the nest. Would it help in killing the spider queen? I've heard that the eyeplant will simply respawn over and over again, and since the lureplant itself is not hostile, it will never be attacked and die?

use a bee hat for killing bees and try to be persecuted by spiders towards them (:

Yes, withe a Lureplant close by, the SPider Queen (and every other spider) will only be agressive toward the "Eyes", not toward the plant itself. So it will be there killing spiders all day if you let it.

I almost never use lureplants for anything, since it will digest what it eats after a while. Maybe people will think it is an effective way to farm for resources, but I don't like it.

I just checked, the Lureplant will digest anything in 20 seconds! So I still think it is an inefficient way to farm for resources.
