It could even be that Abby isn't really there and Wendy is fighting all those things by herself.
Or, perhaps- this Abigail is a fake created by Maxwell, which is why she can't be resurrected...
Abigail may have died in some tragic circumstances that leave her a vengeful ghost, unable to move on or even be revived until, in her own situation - it is resolved or dealt with somehow.
This is also possible considering that the "Nightmare Sword" is actually just a Stick and some Nightmare Fuel. If you look past the supposedly 'magic' nature of the item, in reality you're just poking enemies with a Stick and believing it to be a sword because its made of insanity / nightmares.
Of course some magic items are actual magic, but we really dont know how deep the distinction between magic / pure insanity the things that happen in the world of Dont Starve are.
Even Maxwells magic can't rise from the dead those, who died in real world.
People died in Maxwells world can be returned however, because Maxwell can conrol everything in his world.
The reason the other characters can come back is that their bodies are bound to the Don't Starve dimension.
But it isnt Maxwell's world.
At the end of Adventure Mode at least you find out some interesting things.
It does actually, because you said Maxwell cant revive them.
But said Dark Creatures could. Or they could not. We are not told.
And its not 'The Maxwell's'. He's called Maxwell.
