Do Fire pits stay there forever?

As the title says. I know this might sound like a stupid questions because how would rocks just disappear, but I have looked on the wiki, and it says nothing about staying.

Also, I giant ass tree just popped out and is chasing me and attacking me. He is really slow, do you know away I could get him to stop? I have tried going near the beefalo and they wouldn't attack, I tried outrunning him, but like a few mins later he came back. What should I do?

if u can get any creature to attack it, it will get distracted, works well with pigs, feed one and watch the rest of em attack the treeguard

You can use pinecones. Just plant few near angry Treeguard and there is chance to neutralize it.

Wait, I thought the basic firepit (Campfire? Dunno) disappeared - I recall that having happened to me more than once... I might have been imagining things though xD
