Why does Chester follow the eye bone?

Why does chester follow anything with the eye bone? Is it his eye? Is it because he's somewhat like a dog? Does he simply find it attractive? Share your ideas.

I felt that Chester had a very "dog" like feel. The tounge, the bouncing, etc.

Chester is a lot like a pet, and most pets have a favourite toy, or object that they adore. My little terrier LOVES his little penguin pillow. It's a little square pillow with white on bottom, black on top, and a little penguin head at one end in the middle, and it even has a little "tab" of material that hangs out on the other end *Tail?* that he loves to drag it around with. Anywho, sidetrack, the eyebone to me is becuase he is a pet, and pets have fav toys.

Of course you could just say the Dev's found it a lot easier to code an object for the chest to follow instead of the player and so the player could leave chester somewhere safe. Wheres the fun in that?

I think the eyebone is essentially how he sees, so whatever the bone is looking at is where he goes.

Maybe its just his favorite type of bone- a type of symbiotic relationship. It seems unlikely that Chester uses the eye bone as an eye- as it is by nature not connected. Since the eyebone is "alive", chances are both separate creatures benefit from the arrangement for them to act as one.

The eyebone closes when he dies so it's safe to assume it's his own eye.

Not necessarily- what if that's part of like... Their reproductive cycle? It can't be the same chester every time.

Chester, or atleast the eye bone has an offical scientific name (Oculus Mysterius) so it's definatly more than one chester. That might tell you guys abit, I cant make much of it.

If you mean you don't know what that name means it's pretty much just "Mysterious Eye". I'm still convinced that the bone is how he sees.

It's what wickerbottom refers to the eye bone as when examining it, and she generally calls things by their scientific name when not referring to it by its regular name. I think they may be two different species, born from the same cell and chester sees out of it? It's possible.

maybe its cuz its his baby. tadpoles look totally different from frogs. same with ladybug larvae, and even the Dragonfly's lavae. maybe he follows it because he wants to keep it safe. maybe he just wants to help the surviviors with his only ability, but maybe he needs the eyebone to find them.
No matter what the cause of the following, i still love him. he is a chubby friend and I love him. he is a good boi.

Chester is based upon a sentient pearwood box from the novel, The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett. But that doesn't explain the eyebone...
