Don't Starve Lore
Lets discuss the lore of Don't Starve for a minute, might pass the time with waiting for DST.

We know that Maxwell creates the world in order to find someone to pass time. I don't think he knew if he could be freed or not, but since he was stuck on the shadow throne it would make sense that the Maxwell that greeted you at the beginning may not have been Maxwell himself, like a face covering over the heart.

Jack is Maxwell's Brother, Wendy and Abigail are Jack's Daughters and both are twins. We don't know the mother. Neither do we know what country Wigfrid, Webber, Wickerbottom, Wilson (specualted to be from the Rocky Mountains, probably), WX-78 (he's a robot, he had to be built somewhere), and Willow.
Any ideas?

When webber examines the Tam o shanter he says "reminds us of grandfather". so he may be of scottish decent. all i really know about willow is that she was an excellent girlscout.

I've always assumed all the DS characters are from the same family. Jacks nickname is Woodie (meaning that the twins mother was probably Lucy until she passed away/ turned into an axe). It'd also explain WX78's relevance if he was built by Wilson, as its often seen that Wilson uses his own blood in his experiments. Tis only a theory, though .3.;

if that is the case wouldn't the characters have remembered maxwell or does being pulled in mess with your memory a little bit.

Well who is Wilson to Maxwell? I suppose thats first you should answer. Being as it may, a non valid answer is that he was looking for someone to free him from the chair, seeing as there are way more valid canidates through his travels like the strongman.

Though to be honest... he brings in anyone who he thinks can free him from the chair, or just kill him. Because it is permadeath, you have to think that no one can remember what happened to them before.

Sorry, but there is distinct evidence that the characters do, or have known Maxwell prior to being pulled into this mess. Consider the quotes the characters use when referring to Maxwell-
Wilson - "I hate that guy."
Willow - "He is so condescending."
Wendy - "I feel a strange kinship with him."
Wolfgang - "A fancy suit is no match for my muscles."
Wickerbottom - "What a rude gentleman."
WX-78 - "HE IS UNKNOWN."
Wes - "..."
Maxwell - "Looking good!"
Woodie - "Why does he hate me?"
Wigfrid - "Arrg! Is that the antagönist tö my saga?"
Webber - "That jerk tricked us."
This, as well as various of quotes referring to Maxwell show that they knew Maxwell prior to being tricked into the world (specifically: Webber - "That jerk tricked us; Woodie - "Why does he hate me?"; Wendy - "I feel a strange kinship with him."). I have yet to see evidence of a quote that suggests lack or manipulation of memory (unless you include Wilsons access to forbidden knowledge. This can be further expanded upon by the fact that Wilsons blood was necessary to create the machine- I believe it has something to being in the same blood as Maxwell. Because of this, I assume that prior to being tricked- all of the characters were related by blood.

I think Wilson is a close relative to Maxwell (perhaps an uncle or a father, etc), and he brings in people to feed them to charlie- perhaps to help her retain some form of her past self. Who said that none of the characters could remember what happened before? There are lots of examples related to memories, for example: Willow being part of the girl scouts

I kind of doubt that, being that blood is usually in other means used for forbidden magic, dark arts and the likes. The machine itself was supposed to bring the image of Maxwell to the world of Wilsons in Forbidden knowladge, so that itself could be powerful. But like an earlier statement, since he is bound to the chair in Adventure mode, there is only one way he could get around the world of DS, that he uses an image of himself to travel around.

I doubt this as well as there are people that don't really know him as well, perhaps he was just finding suckers who would listen, like the devil and his contracts. They always backfire and lead you to damnation, not that I'm saying thats what happened but still.

I don't see why both theories can't be true at the same time, each character has a clear motive of something they want or have gained through Maxwells trickery. Since these are all theories, I'm not saying anything I'm saying is strictly true, just my take on it.

But when maxwell is freed from the chair he is still trapped in dont starve universe. Or is it that being on the chair your forced to live without being able to eat or sleep and maxwell just wanted to be able to live like a human again despite still being trapped in dont starve world. There is no escape from dont starve not even in death. Its all just a matter of who suffers on the chair.

Think of it as the same way as a figurehead king technically has the most power in the land, but is less free than a beggar. Just because he is "dethroned" doesn't mean he can escape, but it does mean he has more freedoms than he did before- albeit less power

So the shadows pull the characters into a land keeping each of them seperated to attempt survival up until the point where they either ascend the nightmare throne or succumb to death and be revived on another island. Basicly dont starve is a living hell. If the person on the throne has the power to pull people in they should also have the power to let people out. However they are not going to let anyone out because the less people in means less people going for the throne. and then there will come the events of dont starve together which might tell another part of the story.

Plays it? Are you referring to Ragtime? I always thought that it was part of his "eternal punishment"
