I know this is for regular Don't Starve, but she's honestly a must have for DST groups imo. Being able to make backpacks for every one and dig up bushes without a science machine right away means as soon as you find your base location you can plant your farms and move on with ease. Tentacles make short work of almost everything, including most giants, too. I just find her to be the ultimate character with no downside.
Except... He can't break core game mechanics to his will...
Wicker has Infinite tentacles to her disposal, can choose to grow crops at her leisure, and so many options for really cheap resources. If you are worried about health, hunger and sanity in end game (When you would have those resources to eat the gears), you are playing wrong. I'm sure WX could solo Bearger with a collection of butterfly nets and a grass suit, but... why are you getting hit in the first place if you have made it that far?
I have a similar issue with calling Wigfrid broken; She makes combat simple and easy, but Combat has never been the problem we're trying to solve within the game. She encourages sloppy play, and thus, is a detriment to getting acclimated too.
I had done a few spells of playing Wigfrid exclusively (just because I wanted the bubble of safety, and she is a pretty good character Overall), and then went back to my love of Wendy.
Talk about whiplash.
Going from combat is an oversight to 'I can't kill things on my own' was responsible for more then a few careless deaths on Wendy's behalf. Now, I admit, I'm not a gamer by nature. I don't play for the best strats and highest score. I don't have multi-thousand day bases on my save files. But from my limited perspective, WX-78 has a pretty nice bubble to set up... but Wicker has never needed the bubble in the first place.
But then again it does sort of come down to what you would like to play or what your playstyle is, as you can clearly see from this disscusion.
For fighting I’d recommend Wolfgang and Wigfrid, Wig is good for tanking damage due to regen on hit, so armour will go wonderfully with her. Wolfgang on the other hand is more specialised in damage, but you require lots of food to go mighty and knowledge on kiting.
For food, I’d recommend Webber, but not Wicker if you don’t know how to gather tons of papyrus.
Webber can make spider nests which lead to a ton of silk and monster meat, which can be turned into meatballs.
Wicker however needs lots of papyrus, which can only be obtained from one area in the game (two with RoG). But say you have tons of papyrus, then she is really useful, you can get tons of meat from the bird book or Tentacles, as well as tons of vegetables from Horticulture.
If you want a well rounded character, choose Wilson, his beard is good for winter and can be shaved for beard hair for meat effigys, his only weakness is a slightly lower than average attack and defence
These are just some of the things that the DS characters are useful for
In SW, gears are very easy to get, so you could get upto max stats in your first year. Additionally, he can get overcharged very easily in Hurricane season, which is great because you move faster and you don't need a loght source. He can also eat stale and spoiling food without penalty, which is awesome because you can make all the food you'll need at your base and be gone for several days. Overall, I think WX is better in SW than RoG.
In RoG, his stats and perks are the same, the world just treats him a bit different. However, if you merge RoG and SW you can get some major benifits. Since the "lightning seasons" don't take place at the same time in SW and RoG, you can now have two season where you can get overcharged. Pretty neat!
WX is also great in the ruins, as he can just eat the gears if he gets hungry. If you go while overhcharged, the ruins become very easy. No light required, and a free speed boost is always great!
Yes, I main WX.
Gears would be better put to use for Ice boxes and Flingomatics, really WX would be good for Adventure mode where you can’t settle down.
Sure you can become really powerful, but that would require tons of gears, and Wolfgang and Wigfrid would be better choices as Wolf can become Mighty with a few meatballs and Wigfrid just needs to keep attacking and avoiding really strong attacks.
Also if you want light, grab a lantern or moggles, if you want to go fast, get a walking stick.
In SW, WX suffers a lot due to how easy it is to get wet, and it would be extremely difficult to fight the Quaken since you will be hit with a ton of waves.
If you’re worried about lightning, just make some rods and wear insulated clothing with some health items, if you’re WX you will suffer more due to water damage.
You may say, since he is not a picky eater, I won’t need ice boxes, well it will still turn to rot and ice will melt, you can increase the freshness of something by cooking it (but don’t do it to chestnuts you plan to plant, ice or seeds) or by using the crockpot.
