Don't Starve

How do I catch live rabbits for prestihatitator in RoG?
I'm sure there's a way, but the only way I can find live rabbits is by digging them up with a shovel during Spring and Autumn. I managed to catch one in a trap. It almost died, so I don't know how I'll be able to catch 4 in a short period of time. Magic is an important part of the game for me. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

You have to use traps to catch them alive, and you can feed them food in your invertory to keep the rabbits alive.
All I can think of is to save up food the rabbits, and constantly feed them as you capture more.

How do I feed them? Would I need to set 4 traps in a Savanna biome, then (and have the other items ready to make the prestihatitator)? They start dying so quickly, and sometimes when I check the traps, the rabbit holes have closed. Other times, the trap just sits there. They are harder to catch now.

if rog update has changed anything i am not aware then sorry ,but before ROG u didnt need to feed rabbits after u catch them. I used to stockpile live rabits for winter.
If u do need to feed them then just setup four traps dont pick them up until u need the rabits for making ur thing.

That doesn't work either, as they will leave the traps after a while.

The easiest way to do it is just get all the other materials, and trap all 4 quickly when you need them.

@ tenzek how long before a rabit runs away.?

I was able to catch quite a few in my last playthrough (after I posted this thread), and I just right clicked to drop berries or carrots on them in my inventory to feed them. I fed them the same way while they were in a chest, but the first time I played, I couldn't get them to go in their traps. I can't recall if I played in the Spring or Autumn that time. At any rate, I built the prestihatitator and then burned it down by accident. lol At least I got the hat back when I hammered it. There was one rabbit left, and it ran away.:-P Thanks for the help!

None of mine ran away, but I left a couple of them long enough that they turned yellow. Yellow = Hungry and I think red = Starving. I guess I didn't leave them in the traps long enough.

I've been playing for a while and none of the rabbits have escaped from their traps. One died while I was in another biome. The rest just started to turn yellow and red as they got hungry. I'm assuming there would just be an empty trap when the rabbit runs away, and it needs to be reset? Sometimes the spiders spring the traps and I find them empty. ??? There's another thread about rabbit holes disappearing. I'm wondering if that's why I wasn't catching any rabbits when I first bought the DLC. It was odd that I'd set a trap over a hole, but when I checked back, the hole was gone. It's working fine for me now.

The rabbits don't escape from the traps. They die in them from starvation. When you go to collect a sprung trap that has sat too long there is either a morsel or rot in place of the rabbit.
