Don't Starve

Dragonfly is the biggest fail in the game
So I'm probably real late with this rant, but I don't care.

Summer already is completely stupid, I think most would agree, but then you get the DRAGONFLY, a giant that just takes this idiotic idea to a completely different level, and really hurts the game.

What is with this game forcing the player to learn by dying? That would be okay if you didn't spend HUNDREDS OF HOURS pain-stakingly preparing, building, gathering, and tediously trying to survive against every possible threat.

Then here comes the DRAGONFLY, an enemy that simply flies up to wherever you are and lights everything on fire immediately. Then I panic and equip my marble suit, football helmet, and mace, thinking I'll have a shot at fighting it - nope, the thing 1-shots me.

I know someone will come on here and say "just run away from your base so it doesn't spawn there," yeah I figured that out AFTER my weeks worth of work vanished in one single cheap ass fire. That isn't a "fun mechanic" to learn about a game, it's absolutely cheap ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that takes no skill to do nor rewards creativity or problem-solving. It's garbage.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ beyond stupid, Klei. Beyond stupid, extremely POOR choice for a giant. Its lazy, uncreative, cheap, and insulting to those players who spend hours upon hours enjoying your game.

If you wanted to tell your fans and customers to go ♥♥♥♥ themselves, just come right out and do it. Don't make this half-assed DLC that ruins the extremely fun base game you've already had success with.

My god I'm still in shock. Literally the most disappointed I've been in this game, and I've been through some real teeth-grinding ♥♥♥♥ and still have come back for more. Even the most heartbreaking deaths, I felt that I had more to learn or could've made better choices. This Dragonfly business is the laziest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I've ever seen and I'll be turning off Summer altogether until the developers get their heads out of their asses and fix it.

Very disappoint. Would never have bought Reign of Giants had I known about this incompetence.

Eh, I get what you're saying- but that is kinda of the point of Dragonflys as well :B (to be some crazy end-tier boss that actually requires skill and planning to overcome). We all have these kind of impossible situations though, so I can sympathize.

The point of the dragonfly and summer is to add more challenge for the experienced players. If you want don't want to deal with him turn RoG off and experience how easy and boring it is. Or you can make a base inside a cave and get a mod that shows overworld time while in them so you can escape the heat.

If you have spend hundred of hours on the world, and your base still got lit up by Dragonfly.
Then you are just not prepared enough. Make Ice Flingomatics. And you can stuck Dragonfly between two Boulders (rocks) and just use a normal attack-go back method.
You can also make him sleep or freeze him, and use 14 gunpowder to kill him.

A dragonfly set your base on fire? Wow, a red hound did that to me once.

Anyway, you can just set Dragonflies to "none" in the world settings if you hate it that much.

I think you'll have a lot more problems if you weren't ready to fight the Dragon Fly after "hundreds" of hours.

Hundreds of hour put into a world and no preperations made for the summer or the Dragonfly? You can also just turn him off. It's not the developers fault you died to the boss, it's yours.

turn the dragonfly off, or just turn summer off.
problem solv-ed :engi:

yeah, the way i dealt with it is that i got lcuky and it didnt spawn near my base, and i got it near some beefalo, free cooked meat, and i wouldnt say that the dragonfly is lazy or uncreative, but it is cheap

Well, guess what? Dragonfly has 27k health in DST. And it also spits out babies who have 500 health, hard to run away from and do fire damage.

Ice flingomatic saved almost everything for me before I aggroed him away, and that was my first summer.

LOL!
Don't rage because you died in a video game. If you had spent hundreds of hours in the world, you should've been prepared!
Dragonfly is supposed to be a hard BOSS MONSTER. You can also just turn him off on the settings if you're gonna be mad about having a hard monster to kill in the game.

Each boss announces itself well in adwance. Just make sure you're not near your base when they spawn and then make sure they don't follow you back to it. As far as I know, draggonfly despawns the next day.
