i've seen it a few times before. not sure what its for. the skeleton next to it makes a good resource of boneshards though.

None of the basic (starting and Science Machine) tools interact with it, although something magical might, but I haven't yet lived long enough to get everything together enough to make magic.

It just occurred to me: has anyone tried using Gears on it? I know they exist on the islands, but I also have read they're quite rare and haven't seen any yet.

I'm sure there's something to it, though. I can't recall anything in DS, so far, that doesn't have some sort of use. We just haven't found it yet.

that might be it because there's a lot of stuff in the ruins that can be repaired with resources. thulecite for the altar, rocks for the ancient relics like chairs and tables and gears for the broken clockwork junkpiles.

thats a speculation though, now that i think about it there's not really a fullmoon event in sw or is there? maybe you'll be able to see a ghost pirate captain sitting in it or his fellow pet parrot as ghost instead etc.

as i said, all speculations for now. i might look more into it and find out what it does.

It's referenced in the files as 'portal_shipwrecked' and it's prefab file indicates it has completely no use currently and is just a placeholder for now. So it would seem it's portal to Maxwell's world.

There's a GP? Sweet!

But, yeah, the Altars, and so on, were what made me wonder about it. I also didn't even think to try anything else to repair (wood, boards, stone, stone blocks, etc.) although gears make the most sense to me....
