I'd say either cargo boat or row boat...
with snakeskin sail and...cannons BOOM BOOM!

I like the cargo boat because you can store repair kits and bioluminescence inside it, which means that you don't need to take that stuff wherever you go. However, it's 17% slower than the row boat and the armoured boat. It's the same speed as the bamboo raft and 25% faster than the log raft. So it's pretty slow, all in all.
The cargo boat is very good for volcano season because of the storage, and also handy for exploration.

The armoured boat is the second best if you don't mind the lack of storage space because it has the same speed as the row boat (which is the fastest speed out of all boats, 20% faster than the cargo boat). only with 500 health.
