Crabs are a good renewable source, they're the jackelopes of the sea, drop some traps right over their holes and you'll get plenty, once you have a crockpot you can combine two crabs, a stick, and one filler to get fish sticks.
Also btw you can chase the crab until it digs under ground and put a trap over their head while underground and instantly have a crab

crabs is the best one, you can also try to fish a bit with the fishing rod, also remeber to have a shovel for you in case you find berries bush to take it with you and set it close to your base
crabs are the way to go but dont murder them unless you want to use thair meat for meatballs or hang it on the racks for small jerky. you can add living crabs to your crockpot and then thair food value will be 1 instead of only 0,5 if you'd have killed them. in sw exists the surf'n'turf recipe which requires both a fish and meat value of 1,5. now i just told you that 1 living crab counts as 1 fish value, so if we add 2 of those we have more than enough on the fish value required to make surf'n'turf. adding 2 monstermeat will give us the meat value of 2 which would successfully make the surf'n'turf dish in the crockpot.
although adding more than 2 monstermeat would usually result in monsterlasagna, this is not the case for many sw dishes because for some reason they have a very high priority over the old dishes from the basegame and rog.

so if you gonna catch crabs anyway, go for surf'n'turf. It does so much more for you than fishsticks on your health and sanity. for hunger there are better dishes though.

I always wonder how it's possible to run low on food in SW but i might as well add some of my favourites

Seaweed is perfect for filler or just for eating it on the go since it's so common so you will rarely run low on it.

Mussels are another great source if you can be botherd to wait for them to grow on the Musselstick but if you plant the sticks in big quantities you can harvest a lot of Mussels and use tohse for cooking.

Snakes are also great if you get the gist of fighting them (bait them into an attack dodge and then whack them) since they drop a lot of Monstermeat what is great for filler but you can also use it for Jerky if you want.

Jellyfish are another overabundant foodsource and can easily be harvested with a Trawlnet (just drive over them) what earns you 9 jellyfish per net and you can either cook them dry them or even eat them raw.

Then there are the obvious ones like Limpets and Berrybushes what you can harvest every other day and if you find a good island with lots of Limpets you might as well relocate some berrybushes to the same one.

Lastly you can alos abuse the Monkeys if you want just give 1 or 2 a banana make them attack another monkey watch the Apecivilwar and collect the spoils after that.

plant mussel sticks everywhere. 3-6 mussels per stick, if you wait a few days. One monster and 3 limpets can make surf n turf. great for healing and sanity. Chopping down fully grown jungle trees for eggs or bananas. If you get some reeds from the swamp, you can still make a bird cage and eat bacon and eggs or perogie (they last forever, best foods imo). A bunch of drying racks makes life Very easy. 15 or more is great. Live near snakes or spiders and you'll have constant MM. Drying out seaweed makes it last quite awhile. You can drop sea traps over the wobster dens (sea trap is what, glass bottles, which you can make from sand now?)

Pretty much everything the guy above me said. Minus the jelly fish. They're way more usefull as harpoons, instead of a food source. Tons of harpoons makes fighting at sea very easy. Its also a bit better to catch them with the net (bug net). That way you aren't stuck with so many you can't carry them all, as usually the net despawns when you leave the area.

In the Mild season you could just sail around, gathering seaweed, limpet and sweet potato, you only need 7 each day so food never been a problem in shipwrecked, seaweed are basically everywhere.

Try set up a camp at an island which have forest biome with spider, because monster meat is very good, once you reach hurricane season and have crock pot, just use hail magic to made tons of meatball.

I use crabs like rabbits, meanwhile put pig houses near bee hives so they'll battle in monsoon season when crab holes collapse. Then do some mussle sticks before leaving island, collect seaweed and you can take jellyfish with the net like bees. Super easy. Once you research alchemy stuff, big gold effort considering how you need lighfning rod,you can travel a lot living with natural resources..

My best way for dealing with food came Skyestorme's Warly playthrough on Youtube. He finds a jungle biome that does or does not have monkeys. If it does great, if not make 3-5 monkey huts. Then make a chest close to them and put the Silly Monkey ball in the chest. The monkeys will try to get the ball, but cannot, so they all stay near the chest (assuming this is a bug that will be fixed at some point). Between the snakes, spiders (if nearby) and befriending monkeys with bananas, it is literally an endless amount of food. It is also good for hound attacks and even boss creatures. I saw the monkeys take out a spider queen without breaking a sweat.

Also seaweed. about 6 cooked seaweed will feed you for a day and it is found just about everywhere.
