Best source of meat?

I was just killing catcoons, seeing as it is easy and provides a bunch of meat.... until I realised they only respawned 8 times. Whats the best way to get a reliable source of meat? Ignoring morsels and monster meat.

Kaolaphants come stright to mind as hunting one will set you up for a few days just from the meat but Wargs can be a large problem as the game progresses. Beefalo hunting works very well too if you draw one away from the pack but it's obviously much more dangerous depending on how large the group is.

i like using pigmen as my main source of meat. i use all of the monster meat i get from my spider nests on pigmen to turn them into werepigs. just kill them and you get 2 meat and a pig skin.
use the pig skin to make more pig houses and soon you'll start getting more meat than you need along with a lot pigmen to chop down your trees.

Yeah, this is the best way.
Plus, feed the werepigs your berries and you'll get practically unlimited manure! Or use the meat/pig skin for a ham bat.

If You have problems with finding beefalos or pigs just grab ton of traps and hunt for rabbits. Very usefull if You want meat balls or small jerkies from racks.

Volt Goats are underrated. 3 meat per one. The entire herd doesn't get aggressive when only one gets hit. They're a great source of sanity aswell (Ice Cream).

I second volt goats as a main source. I play mostly as Wigfrid and she only eats meat so I always make my base camp near a heavily populated rabbithole area, and turn that into lots of jerky. Also monster meat can be fed to a bird (in birdcage) and the bird will spit back eggs. Picking up meat and fish in the swamps after they fight each other is mighty helpful too without risking any damage. also, 1 monster meat and three berries in crock pot makes meatballs, all in all I'd say that's my #1 source of food

Werepigs or Volt Goats depending on what you're in closer proximity to although Werepigs require a Monster Meat source but do also provide Pig Skin. The thing about Koalafants is they're useful if they're in the path you're exploring but otherwise chasing them down is time spent not doing more useful things, meanwhile killing Beefalo is even more time consuming as you have to draw them away from the herd, plus having large Beefalo herds alive is useful. If you really need meat from them luring a Giant into them is quicker than killing them individually, and speeds up killing the giant.

For 0.5 meat sources, Gobblers are the best followed by any nearby renewable sources that don't require Traps like Moleworms or Frogs. Monster Meat just requires Spider Dens, although you'll likely accumulate a decent amount from Hound attacks anyway without needing any effort on your part.
