About treeguard farming
Just wondering how you can make treeguards spawn efficiently ? Im really bad at this although i play the game for quite awhile! Im never sure if you need a certain low sanity to let treeguards spawn more or how to get alot of them at once? I mean its completelly random and i just got bad luck? Any hints would help D:

Treeguards will only spawn on day 2+, they have no requirements to spawn except for cutting down a fellow tree near them. So just go into big forests and cut down a ton of trees. Do note, though, burning the forest down will burn the treeguard down too, destroying all of its loot.

I think using old bell works.

Im on day 100 on classic DS. I also burned 2 gold axes and had help from fellow pigs! Still no treeguards ._.

edit: sadly there are no old bells in classic DS ._.

What I meant to say was just that chopping trees through any means has a chance to spawn a Treeguard. Even if mobs such as Deerclops, Bearger and Rook destroy a tree.

Would it be better to cut down small trees for speed? Like what does treeguard spawn? A cut down tree or hits with the axe on random trees ?

It usually spawns after hitting trees alot, though mostly after cutting one down. In addition, you probably want to cut down trees around large, large trees, seeing as treeguards' minimum size is the equivalent of 3 or 4 werebeavers ontop of eachother

Treeguards can spawn from any size tree, except for freshly planted and dead looking. The denser the forest, the greater the chance. Larger trees do spawn larger treeguards, which do corespondingly higher damage and of course have more health; however the drops are the same regardless of size.

In Vanilla, fastest way would be to lead a deerclops through dense forest, though obviously waiting for him to spawn will take a while, so just stick to pig armies for now.

For RoG, Old Bell actually isn't very good for spawning treeguards, at least not in my experience. Chopping birchwood trees also gives a much higher chance at treeguards, albiet a more challenging type, unless you;re using bearger/deerclops, then it's even faster.

Ok thx for the response! I never knew that the loot and size of treeguards dont matter. Thats kinda weird and counterintuitive x_x

Anyway i found 1 treeguard, which i used for my shadow manipulator. Now i noticed that its impossible to build a seaworthy in my world, since there is nothing in the magic tab.
:steamfacepalm::steamsalty:

Still thx for responses folks :dssmallbird:

For me it was always easiest to make a large tree plantation near pig village, and then spend a day or two cutting trees with 5-6 pigs. But they mostly spawn just to ruin my tree farming ^^ rarely actually wanted them to spawn.

I love treeguards, but i feel like in DST its much easier to make them spawn and such.
I feel treeguards are best helpers overall.
Great hound and giant protection and ofc great living logs!
