Best locations for base camps in Caves?
Title.
In general, what resources do people like to build "permenant" bases around, down there? Especially when you're looking to put down your first one.

I would suggest trying to find a banana tree forest. Its really nice to have food ressources near your base !

Alternativelly maybe near sinkhole exits ? Or how about a mushtree forest? There you can chop them down and get logs and food !

It all depends on your generated world / your preferences really :p

Never found banana trees in the caves, only ruins. Maybe I've just been unlucky though. Mushtrees in RoG maybe... But in vanilla cave mushrooms never grow back.

Personally I'd set up near the entrance, or somewhere between the entrance and the ruins sinkhole. Near a Slurtle Mound if possible.

Caves: I usually build a base right at the exit.
Ruins: I put a base in the labyrinth biome, far away from any nightmare lights.

I never much bothered building a permanent base in caves, only in ruins because exploring them takes time and having a crock pot + ice box and a place to store all them gems and such like is a necessity. But I can imagine you want a place in a sunken forrest or elsewhere where you get sunlight during the day, somewhere midway from ruin enterance, cave exit, and an are with some lightbulbs.

But honestly I don't see a reason to build a base there, the general lack of most resources and not really offering a benefit from staying there (compared to ruins and their gold/gems from earthquakes and nightmare fuel). I find just better to make an expedition to grab anything I need down there, like lightbulbs or rocks, and then return back to surface.

Don't quote me on this but I believe farms and grass/twigs only grow underground when near a light source, and lightbulbs count as light sources.

Farms require them, but grass, twigs and such do not.
