Tumbleweed Farming?
Does anyone know an efficient way to get tumbleweeds? Do i need to be within a certain distance of the desert for them to accumulate? Do tumbleweeds spawn based on time passed or is it random? I want to know everything possible to maximize efficiency so i can get gears

I don't know about farming them but if you like them and want more, just go to the world tab when starting game and click "more" or "lots" for the tumbleweeds. I think they're kind of overrated but the best thing you can find in them is gears. Other than that most times it's just straw/sticks. I guess there are gnomes/frazzled wire to give the pig king but usually gold is not an issue as there are usually lots of gold rocks to mine.

Not sure if you can do much if you're already in game and not starting a new save slot.

I watched a video by wind1991 on youtube and her method is to prebuild any structure (chest, drying rack, etc) and just hover around the area which you suspect is a tumbleweed spawn point. And if it is indeed the spawn point, you would not be able to build your structure!
(i'm not sure if it will work if you do not have a geometric placement mod though)

After you've determined the spawn point, simply build walls around it to contain the spawned tumbleweeds. And there you have it, a tumbleweed farm.

Now that is the kind of thing i was looking for! Tyvm

Here's some things I learned while walling my tumbleweed spawners:

The number of spawners will vary with each world; mine had 10 in one desert and 15 in another.

If you've found a spot where you can't build, stand there and see if it goes away; it might be a crawling horror, night eyes or Mr. Skits. If the unbuildable spot remains it could just be a vulture spawner, but beware that just because there's a vulture spawner doesn't mean there isn't also a tumbleweed spawner next to it.

A 3x3 turf area surrounding the spawner is mostly adequate, but sometimes tumbleweeds will spawn outside the walls. A 5x5 turf area works much better, but there will still be a few escapes and it costs almost twice as much rock. Feel free to experiment with dimensions between those two.

The spawners will only spawn a limited number of tumbleweeds at a time, so each one tumbling loose is one that isn't spawning inside the walls; hunt them down. I built walls to separate the desert from other biomes so that the tumbleweeds couldn't escape far, minimizing the time and effort required to hunt down the loose ones. Do this ASAP, even if you aren't ready to wall off the spawners yet, because it will save you a headache later.

that's good advice. I've found the video on tumbleweed spawnpoint farming:

Not 100% accurate but gives you an idea how to start them

I opened tumbleweed... next thing I knew I was running away because spider popped out of it... scared the ♥♥♥♥ out of me.

Edit: Later I looked up and it was pretty rare 'chance' to get it :D
