It's not unheard of, so called hermaphrodites, like earth worms, they can reproduce without partner if needed, as they have both sets of reproduction organs.
And programmers are, usually, too lasy to track separate sexes.

i have seen that happening before, i've killed a herd of 10 or so untill only 1 teen was left.
half a season later the small beefalo grew up to an adult and there were new babies around too.

the wiki also implies that it works that way.
if you go to the wiki page [dont-starve-game.wikia.com]of the beefalo mob you'll read there "Special Ability Becomes hostile periodically, during which time it spawns Baby Beefalo" which means that they spawn from adults just like the spiderqueen spawns spiders or the varg spawns his hounds.

Is there a command to spawn in Beefaloos? I have made some mistakes too...

Confirmed, lone beefalo was shy when i advanced time right next to him. But, after i moved away he made 2 babies.
