Never ask pig guards that are next to your base.
OR use ro bin as a moving piggy bank
the second one requires more time but works
Option 1: Use the executive hammer to destroy guard towers close to your base. If you have the Key to the City, you can even re-craft them somewhere more useful.
Option 2: Create your own slanty shanty as soon as possible and simply choose the best spot for it.
Option 3: Place stone walls around your base, with fence gates. (Keep in mind that things that are already on fire can hop over walls and set your base on fire anyways if something is too close to the wall)
Option 4: Simply never have oincs on your person. Leave them in your house or in Ro Bin. That way, Thiefs will never spawn and be lit on fire. As for bats, you can either wait in your house until day arrives to fight them (so the guards use Halberds instead of torches) or you can move away from your base and fight them there.
Option 5: Ice Flingomatics still exist in Hamlet, albiet stupidly expensive due to gears being rare. If you have excess gears, having some insurance wouldn't hurt.
