DS, RofG, SW, HAM what are those?

There are those options when starting the game, what are those?

These are the DLC that you can enable or not for your game.
DS: Base game
RofG : Reign of Giants
SW : Shipwrecked
HAM : Hamlet

DS is the base game without dlc (vanilla). ROG is the base game with ROG (giants, new seasons such as summer) dlc added on and SW and Hamlet are both entire new worlds. When choosing compatibility pick none to just have ROG or HAM because it also makes the game SW compatible.

Pick which DLC you want to start in first, then make it Hamlet compatible when the game askz. This way your world will support both SW and Ham and you will be able to eventually build a machine to travel between the worlds.

Ok thanks. So I can only have two world(dlc) at once ? One for starter world, and one for alternate world accessible via machine.

You can connect to all three worlds (DS/RoG, Shipwrecked, and Hamlet) in the same game if you set it up right. But I would practice a bit in single-world games to make sure you can survive in the DLC worlds when you travel to them.
