Don't Starve

Should I even bother buying Hamlet?
It seems like they ditched this game a long time ago, instead focusing on DST. Is it worth it to buy Hamlet, or should I just stick to DST?

It's abandoned sure, but it's also complete. I think they fixed most of the bugs, though I don't remember what they were to begin with.

hamlet, like shipwrecked, is completely unique to DS and you wont find things like it in DST.

and yes, i am including the fact that DST added ships not too long ago

or, to keep it short
yes
hamlet is very good

Hamlet just seemed to me like they tried to make an RPG out of a game not suited for it. I got it, played it for a few hours, and never touched it again, going back to Reign of Giants.

Yikes, no thanks. Vanilla DS is already frustrating enough. I don't think I even tried shipwrecked yet because the weather system had me worried.

They are very inferior to Shipwrecked boats. They are more of platforms than ships

Hamlet is very hard at first, but I really liked it since I was already burnout for playing too much DST, so it was a refreshing experience, I even built a decent big base in that dlc lol.

It's just trial and error, after you get through a year of each dlc you pretty much know what you're doing. It's all about going slow and learning at your own pace. I prefer it when the gameplay is hard as I generally find SW and ROG to be a breeze.

I wouldn't call it abandoned, just actually a finished game besides some bug fixes. haha

Hamlet is the best mode! Completely different from other expansions and DST. Very challenging and much more fast-paced than the rest.

That's exactly why I'm not going to play it. I'm not even interested in Shipwrecked.

If you don't already have wormwood unlocked in DST, buying hamlet will unlock him. Consider it a 2 for 1.

Not when you have to buy hamlet first.

You don't have to buy Hamlet first. You could buy the wormwood deluxe chest to unlock him. Buying Hamlet would just be a bonus, because you get both--wormwood and this DS mode.

Shipwrecked tends to annoy me a bit as there's so much sea to explore and the islands are pretty similar. I can't say I see any similarity to Hamlet. This is a lot more compact and requires less time trying to manage survival or look for resources. The Hamlet provides all the safety and resources you'd need if you've got the coin. Acquiring money is not a particularly difficult task. Rather than worrying about hounds, boss spawns or rocks falling from the sky, it is easier to die due to overconfidence or too much ambition.

I really regret buying Shipwrecked and Hamlet, most of the mechanics are just annoying and it's pretty much impossible to play without a wiki ( which completely defeats the purpose of learning by trial and error ).

It's a bit like Darkest Dungeon's DLCs, they pushed them too far just to please a few hardcore fans who wanted more challenge. Good for them I guess, but anyone who just wanted more content of the same game might feel cheated.
