Picking elephant cactus

I traveled from my hamlet world to my shipwrecked world, and got a crocodog attack, which is normal. what isn't normal is that when I went to my elephant cacti for defense, the cacti wouldn't attack. I killed all the crocodogs manually. I took of my cactus armor, and the cacti weren't even attacking me. I tried to attack the cactus to see if it would attack me back, but when I pointed at the cactus, it said "pick", rather than "attack". When i picked it it damaged me and i got a spike in return. I have never seen anything like this. When I reloaded my game everything was back to normal. The only mod I'm using is geometric placement. Has anyone else experienced this before?
