message in a bottle says this map doesnt correlate to my current surroundings what does that mean?

Maybe because it's the last message in a bottle in your world and this is why the game refuse to show treasure location to prevent last kind of this item to disappear.

so can i only have one buried treasure in a game? i used one and couldnt get another

Maybe it's a bug caused by the Seas the Day update? When did you get the bottle? Was it before the update?

Only if there no any other left. At least from what I seen from a video where a guy got (from what I thinking it is) the last bottle with the message in your world. It's still could be a bug. I can't tell since I never had this issue
