Here are some mods I know about that do just what you are looking for. Use at your own discretion.

I think it would be more enjoyable once you learn to take advantage of those death-preventing mechanics, like Touch Stones and the Meat Effigy.
But anyway, we're all entitled to play the game however we want, what's important is to have fun!

I agree with the sentiment for the most part. The game is meant to be played through trial and error. All the way until the player gains an in depth comprehension of the Mechanics, and overall Gameplay.
That being said, from a personal experience, I want a back up for my world that I spent countless hours on. I say this because once before I lost everything due to a FREAKING GLITCH, and had no way to undo it... So I suggest to serious Players to make a periodic backup just in case.
We have to keep in mind everyone can have their own Play styles, and the Perma-Death is off putting to certain types of Players.
