Don't Starve
Hamlet just sucks
Almost nothing about the addon is fun. Over 90% of the things that make the game more difficult, are just annoying, and not fun in any way. Can't even disable things like poison in the world settings. Wish i could just get my money back.

Another problem I have found is the Rabid Beetle wave come exactly when fog season comes, and they seem to be designed to target the player with priority over any other mob. So the only real way to survive is to not be around the dense jungle, and/or hide in caves or ruins. Since you are unable to wear any kind of armor while it's foggy.. this is some serious BULLCRAP. It says it's "too hot" when you wear them, but the temperature reading on my complete UI mod says it's only 10 degrees celsius, so that's a lie.
This is plain wrong, maybe inexperience speaks?

Killing rabid beetle for once is super easy with the bug spray. If you don't have bug spray until that season point u "almost lost".
The rapid beetle design is just to teach new players "don't go into the dark creepy jungle, if you wanna survive in foggy season" Pretty simple mechanic and easy to overcome ->

Same mechanic with the bramble vine growth in the other season. New Obstacles to overcome with eventually.

Rapid beetle growth is a noob barrier to teach certain item priority. Same as in classic DS you needed science machine to mostly survive winter ( with great winter clothes ) or improved with alchemy ( thermal stones ).
But even without bug spray they are easy to wipe out. Just wear a pith helmet + log suit / any new armors and they are a freeze to kill, even with the cork ham bat :3

Those easy solutions don't exist for bat waves, and it is bad design that dev might force players to waste time and stay inside new pork city to let guards wipe out bat waves. Bat waves should be flexible and many HARD stop solutions.

In that sense rapid beetle and even those gnats swarms are much easier to deal with and just minor annoyances ^^

GL regardless, still hope they much much improve bat wave at 1.0 release ...:dshound:

bug spray is pretty garbage in deep rainforest biome, where they spawn the most.

most of the time you will not get R-click function where you place your mouse, you click and click and notihng happens bc it is obscured by ??? who knows what.

another bad mob design imo.

it's such ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to say"just kill them" when they will stunlock you (these things spawn at least a dozen at a time).

video proof of you killing a horde more then say 8 strong or you're a liar. They would just stun lock you and you would not be able to get 1 hit away, or at most 1 hit per 4-5 stuns. Do you even play this game.
video proof of you killing a horde more then say 8 strong (not by gas).
Redhead you talk so much bullcrap sometimes, You dont need a thermal or anything to survive winter.. I've survived a whole winter with just a torch.. Being forced to make bug spray in order to survive is stupid, and what's the point when the bat wave comes in the fog at the same time.. Oh maybe we need Bat spray.. get real.

Don't be rude. Stay classy. And i talk about convenience there not about hard requirement about the thermal example. You understand what a simple example is? Ofc you can survive all year round only with a torch and a carrot on a stick like a hobo. But that is not a normal or desired situation.
So you also survive summer just with a whirly fan and butterfly wings stuck below a tree shade, flailing hands in the air?

My point still stands that avoiding or killing rapid beetle is rather easy. Compared to other obstacles in Hamlet.

Survive summer with a whirly fan and tree shade?

bleh, I tried that last week. Really didn't work out. Had to go into the caves to escape the heat on my maxwell eventually.

if you're maxwell, fashion melon in summer is good.

Maxwell is godlike in summer, his sanity means wearing a fashion melon or ice cube has little to no penalties, you put up with tools slipping and that's about it.
I found that spamming traps against the rabid beetles on an empty inventory works great. You get lightbulbs, and chitin when you murder them.. I made some bug spray and really wasn't as helpful. Traps also work on the weevoles, and you get much more back that way. The pith hat does really help in fog season, but again I normally only wear a helmet for armor on light mobs, so fighting in fog is very hard, unless you have weevole armor and a helmet. I think a better design would be to just increase core temperature of the character if they are wearing something that is not designed for fog in the Humid season.

Do you play wormwoods. Or you mean tooth traps? Cudos for making progress!
Small game traps. 2 sticks 6 grass. Found it easier to just dig up the grass and replant, then you get weevoles show up where you want them. There is also a bit of an exploit bug with Picas.. you can chop the tree and leave the stump and they will still spawn from the stump and climb the stump like the tree is still there. Just leave a small game trap there and you will have contiuous small meat.
I agree. Looks like it wasn't a well thought DLC.
I gotta agree with you tbh hamlet get boring because of the fact that i usally get everything i need wormwood makes the even eaisier because of the fact that you can make a shadow manipulator not based on RNG its true that i can fight the bosses cause i havent done it yet but even before that i run out of entainment and i quit my world shipwrecked and RoG are more fun because they dont give everything to you like hamlet

But it is a mixed bag really. Because beta process in 2018 had a good start for hamlet DLC.

But hamlet 2019 is terrible or awkward somehow. They did add wormwoods which is a gimmicky weird character. They deleted warbucks even though he was a fun scout and explorer. They introduced ugly looking "new" colors. I simply have the feeling the art director of hamlet 2018 got fired or abducted.

And for 2019 hamlet they just hired a random new art director, and since then everything is hayfire and flailing hands in air.

I still have left hope though and hope that at least end of 2019 or somewhere in future they fix all the big problems and finally do their homeworks right :meaty:

This downfall in quality was predictable though and was already shown end of 2018. You can't rework 3.0 DST and make early access hamlet DLC 1.0 and expect it be a smooth and perfect ride. Apparently a medium ride is also out of the window, so few options left.
And we already are in the 2/3 of 2019. Maybe they should have pushed back some projects into 2020. ...

They are a very small studio and seem to lack man power / experience to develop 2 big IP as the same time with bug testing, Q&A, and all that jazzing.
( DST 3.0 + hamlet 1.0 was like delusional idea for 2019 )

just my 2 speculative cents

Just because you didn't like the art change doesn't mean it's bad. That's all a matter of opinion. I don't even see complaints about the color changes at all anymore outside of threads like this, offical forums, reddit, etc seem to have accepted the changes.

Development is still going just fine, they just decided they wanted to do a lot more. The next Hamlet update is huge and is going to change things in all DLC's, so the quality is definitely going up.

Nope the art is not only the problem. I did follow closed beta of hamlet DLC and open beta of DLC.
There is a huge difference in update output and bugfixing between hamlet process in 2018
compared to process of 2019. You were not there buddy, sorry you wouldn't really understand.

And nope i won't write a 60 page thesis why hamlet is a train wreck and klei got a big underlying problem.

Either trust me or discard me. There is alot of evidence in the internet, klei forums and this forums to see that hamlet is in a terrible state and needs alot crunch works.
