You spawn on a island located in the middle of the world. This island varies in size, from being super small to one of the biggest islands on the map. Like RoG, you should pick up everything in your immediate area. Grass and twigs are very valuable in SW, as not every island has them. Pick up all the flint you can find. It's very valuable. Make a axe and a machete to begin collecting logs, palm leaves, bamboo, and vines. All of these will be used to make boats and sails later. If you do not have enough flint to make both of these resources, make a pick axe and mine the boulders around you. Avoid mining limpet rocks, as they are finite and not renewable.
Once you've collected enough resources, either make a log raft or bamboo raft. The log raft has a sailing speed of four, while the bamboo raft has a speed of five. Thus, the bamboo raft is generally preferred. Both rafts have a total durability of 150, and cannot equip sails or boat accessories (more on that later.) Be careful while sailing at night with rafts, as you will be unable to use a torch due to paddling requiring your hand slot. You can either choose to want the night out on an island or stand in place.
Once you have enough resources, lay down a science machine. Prototype a rowboat, a thatch sail, a backpack, and a boat torch. You can also make a spear and a lot suit if you wish. If you have the resources, pre-craft your alchemy engine as well.
While doing early game sailing, it doesn't really matter which direction you go, but I would recommend following the waves. This is because they provide a free speed boost and will sometimes lead you to another island. You want to explore islands for more resources, in particular gold. If you find a doy doy on your journey, DO NOT KILL IT. They can be used as an infinite food sources later and a way to farm Krampus. Don't be afraid to enter coral reefs and mine some coral. It is useful later. If you find a streamers trunk, open it. These can't hurt you and can give you great loot, such as the dumbrella. This is basically the SW version of the eyebrella. If you see your screen beginning to zoom out on its own, follow the direction it is zooming out from. This can lead you to the volcano, a place that is very useful in the late game. If you see the fog/mist, you will know that you have reached the end of the map. You can either choose to go inside it or ignore it all together. Go inside the fog will teleport you to the opposite side of the map, useful for uncovering the map faster and for escaping mobs. Keep on sailing and discovering islands until days 10-15.
By now, you should have a lot of the map discovered. Mild season will be beginning to end and Hurricane season will start soon. You can choose any island you want to base at, although ideally it should be a big island that is mostly comprised of jungle turf. Set up shop in the middle of the island. Here's where coral becomes useful. Take six coral and at a science machine refine it into two limestone. Use the limestone and other resources to make a chiminea. This structure is like a fire pit, but it is 100% resistance to wind and rain. I won't talk a lot about base building, see Volx's SW base building guide for that: https://youtu.be/FFr-057xfSk
At this point, Mild season should be almost over and Hurricane season is about to start. For now though this should be able to give you a strong start in your SW survival. Let me know if you want me to give you some tips on how to survive Hurricane season!
Yes i know wickerbottom seems powerful, but again mostly i use her books on farming and i feel when you start bunker and mega base in SW you already lost. I mean you put effort in your cute farm base for 50 days and then a single meteor shower simply destroyes everything ;-;
I might try wigfrid for a more fight style or warly for cook tinkering. Idk is hard to choose right character, since all seem to have funny perks.
My problem really is space, i can't pick everything like a cleptomanic. Either i run out of space or i don't have the appropriate tools. For example many times i wanted to leave an island, but i couldn't since i run out of flint to either craft an axe or machete for boat crafting. This is most sad when you get stranded on an tiny island with touchstone >.<
Yes those crafting tools seem very valuable, but i feel its super complicated. For every tool you seem to need different ressources and you end up wasting alot of time on ressource grinding and suddnely you are again in meteor doom season. Do you gather by "shopping list" or intuitive? I feel really priotizing stuff is super important, but since SW got strange different loot it's also hard to get into this. Sand, bamboo, snake skin all seem weird obscure stuff which just fill your inventory needlessly D:
I never found doydoys before usually i end up dying before that lol. Or unlucky?
Usually when i find corals i don't have pickaxe yet. Speedrunning for gold and pickaxe early seems kinda hard for me at the moment ...
Yes i love the streamer trunks, fun suprises!
I think i found vulcaon 1-2 times, but mostly died cause overheat or nasty monsters.
Thanks for day 15 tip, will explore then. How important is it to explore the whole map? And how fast? Yes chiminea seems super OP! But still hard to find the pickaxe at first ...
Ok i will search for Volx stuff :D

I guess several small camps are much better than 1 mega base. Since dry season can destroy that mega base rather quickly, but having maybe 3 small camps is good as backup space?
But hard to get so many rocks and lime for all those firepits / chimineas.
I feel hurricane season is kinda relaxed, you just travel till hale stopped. You don't even need light since endless lightning rods :D
It seems to pass by so fast and then you are killed by floods or meteors in the end xD
Gets alot grinding when you have to restart over and always skip mild and hurricane season. Flood and dry season seem to be hardest / most dangerous.
Personally I think Hurricane is more dangerious than flooding season because you have short day, sailing in this season is pretty bad because of strong wind, lot's huge waves, especially in dark and lighting will can strike resources and forest if you adventure on other islands. And let's not forget about Sealnado who always visit you at night...
Monsoon season - would best time to spend time exploring in the sea and forget about flooding and mosquitoes on your island. Just take waterproof clothes/hat, prepare food on your base and travel through the seas and only stop to your base to take more food.
I understand why you might not want to play with this guide, as everyone has their preference. This is just the way I play. Bamboo and snake skin are very valuable to carry around before you base, since they are used in several crafting recipes. Sand however, pretty much useless. I would even bother collecting it until you can make the chimena. It's fine if you want to play as someone other then Wilson or Wickerbottem, I just recommended these characters as they are fairly easy to learn with. Their cons are fairly easy to deal with and don't have much of an impact on your survival. I haven't personally tried out Wigfrid in SW, but I'd imagine it's hard in the early game due to the all meat diet. You would probably spend a lot more gathering food with her than with other characters. Give it a whirl if you want though.
On the topic of characters, I think WX-78 is good for SW. You can get easily charged during Hurricane season, and, if you use the Seaworthy, you can also get charged in Spring. This means that instead of just one season to over charge you can abuse two. Since gears are very plentiful in a late game SW world, it shouldn't be too hard to get WX to his max stats. The fact that you can eat stale and spoiling food is also great in SW. Food spoils fast and wetness only makes this process faster. The only problem with WX is that you will take damage form water. This means that you need to take extra precaution when sailing rather then just sailing in a straight line. This attribute becomes pretty meaningless if you find a dumbrella in a streamer trunk like how I did. :D
When you find the volcano in the early game, I wouldn't recommend going inside it. Nothing in there will be of immediate use, and there a ton of mobs that would love to kill you.
In terms of finding the doy doys, you were just unlucky. Two doy doys spawn per world on any island except the starter island. The doy doys will never been found on the same island. They are generally very far away from each other, so you have to do a bit of hunting to find them. In the mid game, you are going to want to get both of the doy doys and put them in a pen at your base. This is because of what I have told you before; infinite food and Krampi spawns. The reason why they need a pen is because they need to be safe from harm, as they cannot fight back, and because they will eat almost anything on the ground, even food out of crockpots!
Every 20 days the game will attempted make the doy doys breed. This will result in them laying a egg, which will eventually hatch into a baby doy doy. You don't need to do anything to help them grow up as they will grow on their own. Over time, this amount will build up, resulting in you having a emergency food supply. After you have a large amount of doy doys, bring two with you into the volcano and kill them. This will result in an instant Krampus spawn. This is because killing the last two doy doys in the world maxes out your naughtiness meter, and since the volcano is technically separate from the main world, you are holding the lat two doy doys in the world. This method is probably the best way to farm Krampus, maybe even beating the Glommer glitch.
When you kill doy doys, you will get their feathers. These are used to craft the second fastest sail in the game, the feather lite sail. This sail gives you a massive 40% speed boosts but it only last two days. You can either choose to use the sewing kit or just simply make more of them. If you want to find out more, watch Volx's sail guide:

Hopefully these tips will help you in SW. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
About WX and overcharge is it possible to provoke storms in either SW or RoG ?
Would be funny if you could cast hale storms, that way free ice for meatballs, yay :D
With some trinket or something? I feel they are very rare or im just very unlucky and get rarely overcharge >.<
If you use a telelocator staff on a animal or yourself a storm will be triggered. I don't know if this will cause hail or lighting though.
