Don't Starve

I love restarting
Is it odd that I do this? Every time I sit down to play this game (and I love it), I pretty much always restart from the begining. I enjoy exploring and building up my base, and jumping from world to world means I get too much of a head start. I've seen some folks here with days played in the thousands in one game, and I could never do that. Not because I am unable (once you get good at this game your survival isn't too difficult) but because it stops being fun.

Thoughts? Am I alone in this constant restarting? :)

i love the new start as well. Fresh.. clean... anything is possible! It's the best part of the game, to me. Have fun!

Long worlds aren't very appealing to me either. The game is about surviving and exploration. If I wanted to make a megabase or something like that I would play a game that actually has creative base building mechanics like Minecraft or Terraria.

Anyways, i've actually restarted really good worlds where i'm good and set up just because I forgot what I was doing when I quit last time or I'm no longer challenged anymore. DST scratches the need for a challenge itch very well. Joining public servers with a couple of people struggling to survive in the middle of Winter and making it a point to take the time to help them despite having very little myself is very fulfilling to me.

I have never played DST. Is it worth it having already played a lot of single player DS?

For someone who likes restarting constantly you may enjoy just hopping onto pub servers, playing x amount of time, then doing it again on another server when you have to stop playing. It's very easy to do that kind of thing in DST so I can recommend it, unless your favorite character is willow or woodie.

I 100% disagree.
Hopping on random server in DST on say day 7 or 10 is pretty worthless. The world isn't pristine at all and everything is heavily griefed.
The wonderful thing about DS new world start is that everything can happen and you can find mysterious treasure first time and nobody touched it before!
If you hop on random servers all already happened. People did loot all boons already and get their walkin canes, people already got chester kidnapped or glommer and you can never get it back. People already raided ruins with WX and looted all thulecite and gears down there. People already killed ancient guardian and whatnot.

It's big waste of time to join day 15 worlds then speedrun ruins and only notice like 5 hours later that the challenge was pointless, because everything is griefed / looted / destroyed down there.

I think both ways are fun. You can accomplish other things in 1000 day world than constant restarts. For example if you got megabase idea in head you might only accomplish it in day 500 if you grind legit materials.

But yeah i think the start of ANY game be it sp, multi or MMO is most fun.
Reason is really simple: Most time it's hardest at beginning and everything is new and pristine. All the world is new and untouched and very mysterious. When you know 100% top and cave map, exploring gets pointless sadly.

But if you like more challenge and die alot try wilderness mode! There each death = reset map and you need to explore new :meaty:

edit: about DST, it's only worth it if you play with friends long time. Trust me randoms or griefers are waste of your time. Also keep in mind DST can't pause game and don't have storymode etc. Also DST will never get shipwrecked or hamlet.
DST is for party people who like to kill big raid bosses with crazy 20.000 hp. If you like complex bosses you might wanna check out toadstool or bee queen as raid boss examples. If you don't care for multiplayer or boss hunts don't bother with DST.

Also i think DS is much more harder than DST, because DST you can cheat death by rollback server. DS is instant death and hard coded game over. Also if you got veteran players, who know what they are doing you can feel obsolete and get bored fast ...
Yes raid bosses are harder in DST, but everything else is much more easy. Especially friends who are mega builders or spood feed you food :D

I enjoy restarting, but you have to remember that the game is enjoyable as long as you have purpose. If you have a project you want to work on, then the world can go on for as long as you want without getting boring.

For example, you could choose to end a world after the first Winter, or you may want to clear out the ruins. Maybe you want to link the RoG world to Shipwrecked (or vice-versa) and do everything there, which to me is the full experience.

I definitely agree on the note of world hopping. I've done it once and it was extremely boring.
I tend to restart every time I come back to the game as well. I do this for most single player games. Skyrim, Battle Brothers, Toal War games ets.

It's just a preferance thing really. Unless you have a project or 2 to motivate you sandbox games become rather boring in time.
