Don't Starve

Wheeler's new changes are some of the worst design choices I've ever seen come into this game.
They literally just gave her no downsides, and is the only character in the game with a passive speedboost, she can dodge during bossfights, *and* she has that airhorn?

What the hell is Klei doing with their balancing? Wheeler can literally do everything 10% more efficiently now; Even 25% more efficiently, if she's got an empty inventory and she keeps stuff in her backpack / Krampus Sack.

That inventory downside was perfect for someone like her. It was probably the most unique downside any character has gotten, and it encourage a style of play that was more centered around staying and keeping your load organized. Which kinda fit her character as well. Now she's none of that.

Removing her unique downside and basically just making her a Wilson+ is like what happened to Winona all over again. Klei, if you're going to give a character one of the strongest upsides you could possibly give a character (a passive speed boost) then the downsides they have must be detrimental. The speed up is one of the best perks in the game, while the inventory sizedown is one of the worst downsides in the game. That's what you call balance.

As for Wagstaff, I think it's the same case. The nearsightedness isn't even an impact on your stats, or anything. It's literally only there to give the player an eyesore to deal with. It doesn't hinder gameplay at all. Oh, and a delicate stomach you say? By day 10 no player is eating food raw. What a meaningless downside.

Having characters that are just easy mode isn't interesting, Klei. You're making this game significantly less interesting every time you throw in another character like this. What happened to characters like Wendy, who traded off some stats for a unique ability?

At least you didn't throw a price tag on her like you did with Wortox.

They should reduce the amount of her inventory slots back to ten.
Wagstaff's fun and balanced.

I know some cool stuff for him. Maybe make it so that he can't carry things like Piggyback Sacks or Marble Suits, because his bones are too old for them. I dunno, just a small thing.

I think he need just one more little small downside. Could just be me though.

I see. The thing's we already have a character who's disadvantages are centered around her advanced age.
Maybe change his delicate stomach to somehow limit his diet?
Anyway, his short sight and glasses make him an interesting and original character.

At this point why people complain? Their last 3 characters kinda failed. 1 got deleted. 1 is super gimmicky like wormwoods. And wheeler, there you have it.

Seems like klei can't design well made characters anymore.

I know sounds crazy, but i miss the simple walani times. Yes she was maybe not so useful for RoG or hamlet worlds. But at least walani is well rounded and has a vision. She has actually personality and funny quotes. Not some gimmicky hack job like wormwood etc
:c

well atleast she is playble
to be honest lack of inventory space made her in my eyes better for togheter
also redhead whats wrong with gimicks? woodlegs is gimmicky webber is.
hamlets character roster is a mixed bag like shipwrecked 1 half really fun and creative other gimicky (warly walani are great. wilbur and woodlegs are gimicks)
hamlet has vission for characters they just screw up here and there
(warbucks wheeler (wormwood can be really fun in rog)
every ds character bucnh is a mixed bag no exeptions
base game has willow (while she is inportant for new players she sucks and is uncreative)
maxwell wicker woodie and wendy are all gimicks
wig is like by some but hated by others
webber is a gimick
wallani and warly are creative
woodlegs and wilbur are gimicks
so them being unable to design characters is false
since they had always hade gimicky characters
oh and warbucks ya. ya he became wheeler (both adventurersand both loved and got ♥♥♥♥)
and wagstaff is still here so its not all bad
also this whole forum as soon as a single update drops goes mad with critesisme
the vocal minority is always annoying

Her inventory downside was kinda harsh tbh, become handicap in late where mass produce items happen and more slot become very demanding, but yeah they gone to far with the buff.

And her airhorn is OP, rock and flint can do 100 dmg.

oh i know a good decent downside
when under 50% hunger she become the slowest character
when insane her airhorn become inacurate (no sanity means 100% miss)
and dodging takes up hunger

Remove the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ air-horn and reduce the amount of her inventory slots to twelve. There you have your speedrunner.

I feel like Wheeler is designed for players who know what they're doing late game, and thus don't need a whole lot of space.

Plus, if you're anything like me, you try to get a Krampus Sack ASAP.

I mean, if they, god knows why, want to give her an early-game ranged weapon, why not give her blunderbuss and gunpowder blueprint?

Just tried spawning Deerclops for the sake of... science? Anyway, using but the pew-matic horn and twenty rocks, I was capable of defeating it. Twenty rocks. Nothing more.

Currently, Wheeler has literally no downsides, while being faster than every other character and being able to deal 200dmg per second using low-cost materials.
OP. Extremely fun, but OP. Making her unable to use any other form of combat may make things more interesting. But not so much, as there's ammunition lying around everywhere.

I no longer think that removing the horn is a good thing, as I simply love the bastard, but there needs to be a harsh pay-off for having such a powerful gadget. Heck, in terms of sheer damage output, Wheeler's now mightier than a Wolfgang with a wet Morning Star.

Make her vegan? Remove every fighting method that ain't the horn? Most logical decision seems to be to make her a "glass cannon". Let her have her dodge, let her have her speed, let her have her horn. But lower her maximal health to overwhelming 45.

Actually felt like creating my own thread. Enjoy.

To be honest, I was thinking the same thing, but just figured that Klei would never let a character have lower HP than Maxwell. Making her a glass cannon is a genius idea. She can be one of the highest rewarding characters, only meant to be handled by the most skilled and adept players. Rewarding playstyles that are cautious. 45 HP would mean that every encounter would require the player to take almost every factor into consideration.

I don't really care if wheeler is a tad OP, if she's incredibly hard to unlock, like wood legs was. Because WX is already ungodly overpowered in hamlet/SW anyways. And if anyone needs a massive nerf stick its him.

If you gotta unlock every other character in the game to meet her unlock condition, thats fine. She can be OP then.

One downside a character has never had is that, They can never start a game thats not in the region they come from. Can still use sea/sky worthy, but they must create it in their dlc they came in.

That doesn't straight up nerf a character directly, but its a huge downside.
