Jellyfish and seaweed, then you're never ever going to worry about food

Crabbits can be a useful source, and Dogfish if you have projectiles.
Mid and Late game:

If you can get a bird cage (gold is hard to get in SW and marsh is very dangerous with flups/poisonous holes/merms) and a particulate purifier: Stink rays. They give either monster meat or glands. They respawn in like 30 seconds so you can farm them endlessly, they can't hurt you only poison you which is where the partifulate purifier protects you. Then you can turn some of the monster meat into eggs and have meatballs for days.

My personal fav lately is using all the lureplants I have from ROG, plant them in the magma turf and they can't grow eyelets. You just need to unequip the hand slot and harvest leafy meat. Cook them and you get 18 hunger from each. I planted almost 18-20 and could live off that alone for many seasons. Just note that they do not grow in winter but I'm not sure about hurricane season. Usually in other playthroughs in ROG where I tried it, I would have to put down wood flooring to keep the eyelets from growing too much and it would cost tons of wood. Placing them on magma turf is so nice and cheap.

Another use for lureplants, I plant them on an island with lots of bee hives and killer bee hives. They will kill bees in one bite and you can destroy the lureplant for tons of stingers, fish morsels (crabbits) and honey. The killer bee hives are the best, just going near the killer bee hives will force 6 or more to come out, then walk around the lureplant and the eyelets will eat them all up. Once the killer bees no longer come out, destroy the lureplant and collect -- then place down the lureplant again. You'll need the stingers for boat repair kits.

I also have a small island with a bunch of crabbit holes, I plant 4-6 lure plants and go there to harvest the crabbit meat (not that good and usually half spoiled by the time I get there). The fish morsels (only 0.5 fish value) are more for fillers for surf n turf and seafood gumbo.

Right now I'm working on a monkey farm (put the monkey ball between 8 walls) with a flingomatic next to two close limpet rocks. Put man-made flooring because it got flooded recently. Lots of bananas for banana pops as well as morsels/manure. I only have 4 huts down but I plant to put at least a dozen or two dozen. Then when I kill enough, I farm krampus too and get monster meat/charcoal.

Nice suggestions, so more currently I should hunt jelly fish and get seaweed, as well as use traps on some spiders(t2 spider den on my island, opposite side from my base)+bird cage to get eggs?

EDIT: Thanks for the suggestions, they work, jellyfish+seaweed is decent and since I managed to afford a birdcage and bird trap, I have lots off eggs. Now all I need is the purifier and some drying racks for jerky(as it turns out, crab meat does not count as meat but only fish, so no bacon and eggs for me yet)

If you have multiple limpet rocks on your island california rolls are pretty nice, two limpets and two seaweed.

Also, if you can find the slot machine it may be helpful to set up shop on that very island, or nearby if it is nothing but rock or jungle or is terribly small.

Don't forget that you can Jerkify Seaweed and Jellyfish. They last as long as any other Jerky, pretty good for recipes like Pierogi and (correct me if I'm wrong) the Jelly Pop. Also on that note some recipes like the California Roll can't be made with Dried Seaweed.
